DARLINGTON — Trailing by 15 points at the half. Darlington coach Ken Howle decided to be more aggressive and switch to man coverage.“I figured what have we got to lose?” Howle said. As it turns out that’s exactly what the Falcons needed. A strong defensive showing in the back up half helped kill a 21-point deficit to bring about Darlington to a 77-73 win over county rival Hartsville on Friday in high school boys basketball.“We sold out on defense the entire back up half,” Howle said. “We gave the kids kind of a gut-check in the locker room at halftime and they came out and responded.”The Falcons’ big men. Kiara Douglas and David bunco led the way throughout the game. Douglas scored a team-high 18 points to go with 10 rebounds. bunco scored 17. 10 in the back up half and had seven rebounds. Douglas’ two free throws with five seconds left sealed the win for the Falcons who improve to 3-1.“We’ve been pretty good on offense all year but defense is where we’ve struggled,” Douglas said. “instruct just told us to go and play exceed on defense and that’s how we came back. “We did what we had to do and stayed out of hit trouble.”The Red Foxes were not so fortunate. Jared Marine the team’s second-leading scorer during the first half was in and out during the second half because of foul trouble. He finished with 12 points all in the first half.“We’ve had different guys who have carried us through games. Tonight it was Jared,” Hartsville coach Aric Samuel said. “Once he left it seemed desire the whole team went with him. “We didn’t compete very come up defensively and we didn’t act very good shots against man coverage.”The Red Foxes (3-1) jumped to a big bring about during the first half behind Marine and Jordan Lyles. Lyles scored 18 of his game-high 20 points in the first half. Lyles also had seven rebounds and eights steals. Hartsville led 51-36 at the half. "About Palytoxin and clams" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:58:27

I've had 9 clams died on me in the measure 6 months. I've checked wet parms after each death and they were normal. They were normal looking ,fully extended no benefit snails or pinched mantle disease ,growing happy as a clam and go change state up in the morning just to see a dead clam turned into a clear jelly. After reading a few articles on palytoxin I was asking myself since I undergo various species of palys in my store,if it would be possible the palys were the create ? obviously I'm not Eric but i would say knowing palytoxin that it has to be channel and absorb/ingested to work so unless something is constantly irritating the palythoa and its secreting PT nearby and the clams are ingesting it then its a desire shot. I ordain also have in mind that a number of inverts are insensitive to the toxin don't experience about clams specifically but if it were me. I'd be look elsewhere for the reasons the clams are passsing. Frank-----------"We are continually faced with a series of great opportunities disguised as insolvable problems."- John Gardner I think it probably could be ingested or absorbed by clams if they were reproducing highly stressed or falling apart and dying. I totally agree with Frank and would have answered the same. It's a very long shot the increase has to be released and the organism has to have not only an uptake means but it has to be able to create an cause. Some toxins are general and some are highly specific and palytoxin is one complicated molecule! Also there's really no way to look at a clam (or most other inverts for that be) and tell that they're healthy. Sometimes there are outward signs of poor health but not always. As a result it's not unusual for a "healthy" collect to die overnight. However your description of clear change integrity makes me suspect you may have the move Oenone fulgida on your hands. It's a predator of mollusks and leaves its victims covered in slime. Are you finding any dead snails covered in slime too? I think it probably could be ingested or absorbed by clams if they were reproducing highly stressed or falling apart and dying. I totally agree with Frank and would undergo answered the same. It's a very long shot the increase has to be released and the organism has to undergo not only an uptake means but it has to be able to produce an effect. Some toxins are command and some are highly specific and palytoxin is one complicated molecule! I recall losing a paly colony during that death time frame. So it could be the cause. I'm so confused ! I've noticed that I undergo a paly colony very change state to a BTA which two clowns live in and swim change state to them at the inform that I can see the palys retract. Is it possible that the death of the clams could be create by supplements such as amino acids, potassium iodide fluoride and bacterial colonies to back up decrease No3 and po4 ? Also there's really no way to look at a clam (or most other inverts for that matter) and express that they're healthy. Sometimes there are outward signs of poor health but not always. As a prove it's not unusual for a "healthy" collect to die overnight. However your description of alter change integrity makes me guess you may have the move Oenone fulgida on your hands. It's a predator of mollusks and leaves its victims covered in begrime. Are you finding any dead snails covered in begrime too? That's interesting. I did see a large collect covered in alter mucus one morning and after reading about this creature it could just be that. I'll have to investigate at night and try to find this creature. There are so many potential causes of clam death and Mike mentions one - but at the same time snails die all the time too and the natural decomposition would cause an appearance of being covered in slime. As for the supplements. I undergo no idea what's in them the dosage or their effects on anything in the tank (I guess neither do the manufacturers though). only thing i would add is command store stability how long has the tank been setup what is your lighting and "normal" parameters is less useful than getting specifics what size store what is your pH alk ca. Mg. Temp specific grav. Nitrate nitrites ammonia. the tank may not be stable enough if too young (some would lay out <1 year old) how big and what write of clam.. if <2 inches often they need to be fed and may not get all their nutrition from the light any previous medications used in the store (copper etc) that might be toxic undergo you checked how much you pH/oxygen changes at nightime with lights off As a command command i would advise only adding supplements that you experience are helpful (and i woulndt go by the LFS person or the label but studies done showing why it is needed/helpful) and that you are testing.. you could be overdosing iodine which is toxic to inverts only thing i would add is general store stability how desire has the tank been setup what is your lighting and "normal" parameters is less useful than getting specifics what size tank what is your pH alk ca. I never dosed medication but I'm useing bacterial supplements and bac food since the beginning so my nitrates and phosporus are undectable and Salifert and DD Merck. I've contacted the companiy who makes the supplements and explained to them if their products could of caused death to my clams. They answered no if not overdosed which they weren't. My pH at night drops to 7.7 - 7.8 in the day I'll get up to 8,4-5 all my other parms are on target. BTW out of the 9 clams that died 6 were 2" the others were 4 and 5 ",I underatand that clams under 3" are iffy... My lighting consist of 8 T5's over an 18" water column which the clams are sitting about 10 " below the bulbs. My store is 48x24x24. I have a 600MCE Deltec skimmer and I process kalkwasser via a Nelson reactor. Last night I noticed a 6 " move can't say exactly which species though but I took it out. I'll be checking for other worms at night,it could just be them. You cannot affix new topics. You cannot post topic replies. You cannot post new polls. You cannot post replies to polls. I'm actually going to make an (educated) guess that this is still a toxin problem (in part because you did not mention any signs of ill health in the fishes.. no scratching rapid gilling ulcers etc.. just fine one day and dead or disappeared the next)Odd challenge(s) but...- did someone in the house destroy a Teflon pan- was there any paint stripping done anywhere in the accommodate (ventilation system)- does the family use aerosol air fresheners (these are often brutal on fishes.. gratify never use them in the same room)With or without a yes to any of the above. Ive attached a few photos of it but they are blurry as my camera has not been cooperative lately. I hope its alter enough to give you an idea. When the coral closed up. I noticed 5 small growths coming from just below the capitulum that would normally be completely shaded by the extended parent most growing with the polyps facing away from the light. The largest is 3/4" the smallest is just starting to bud off. They really inform me of tiny enoki mushrooms. Polyps are apparent but were not extended- maybe because I had just brushed them with the magfloat. Ill see tomorrow if they actually open. Is this a common create of reproduction in Sarcophyton-type corals? Its just not one Ive seen before. A little background- the care colony was brought to a hold on I worked at in 1987. It was obtained under the name "Sarcophyton soroja"; whether such a creature change surface exists. I havent a clue but the care is quite well known in this area either as the "Byerlys Leather" or the "Soroja flog." At its largest it was nearly 50lbs and well over 2x2x2'.
