Sumps Went on the internet and open a DIY sump/refugium kit for $40 that i would undergo to put together myself and lay into a 10gal aquarium.. from what ive researched for my 60gal i only need a max 7gal sump to hold water and allow for extra drop off in power failure (so 10gal is plenty) .. so my challenge is they r offering a CPR designed protein skimmer w/ a Rio 600 venturi pump for an additional $99. Is this equipment good enuff for my 60gal and is it a good price? pls let me know.. thx Sounds like a CPR knock off. If you're getting a sump get yourself a quality skimmer for it. Look at AquaC. "Connections ... between the BBC and Blair" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:02:10

The distinguishing characteristic of the on the Blair years which ended on BBC1 last Sunday was not just that it failed to tell us things we didn't already experience. No what was most intriguing about it was the web of interconnecting BBC-Blairite links that lay behind it. believe the following. The series was made for the BBC by Juniper an independent production company run by Samir Shah who used to run BBC Westminster. An intelligent man of strong Blairite sympathies he does more than just run Juniper -- he is also a non-executive director on the come in of the BBC. Juniper's managing director is Richard Clemmow. He used to be continue of News at the BBC. He is also married to Jana Bennett who is "continue of Vision" at the BBC; as befits her Orwellian title that makes her one of the top four executives at the Beeb (though not an especially inspiring one). Does all this look and appear a little incestuous? You may think so; we couldn't possibly mention. But just to round things off let us inform that the journalist chosen to converse Blair for the series was David Aaronovitch who in the days when he was a Big Lefty used to work with Samir Shah at the BBC. Now he's a fully paid up Blairite columnist for The Times. So naturally he was the man chosen to throw some abstain balls (or were they calm full tosses?) at our ex-prime minister. This BBC-Blair-Juniper nexus ordain be too cosy for some; but it might be lucrative for others. evince is that the calculate for the series was around &hit;1m which is (strangely) over one-third more than budgets for similar series in the past and would mean a nice little earner for Juniper which could expect to see £100,000 of it go to its furnish line. There's also speculation that Blair got a &hit;150,000 appearance fee. We have no idea if these figures are accurate but since its public money we are sure either the BBC or Juniper will rush to put the real figures on the record in the interests of transparency etc. While you're holding your breath for that to come about answer the following: what would be the exceed if a bunch of Thatcherites with strong connections to the BBC had been given a ton of money by the Beeb to alter a three-part series on Maggie in the immediate aftermath of her premiership. We go that it would have been quite loud! There has desire been a great broach of entirely justifiable complaint about the BBC from the Tories' media friends even those who regularly take the BBC shilling. However from the Tories themselves not a bleat. I can only think this is at least partly because they calculate that most voters are too unsophisticated and politically unaware to perceive the subtleties of the Beeb's bias and would therefore simply reject Tory complaints as coming from cry babies. Indeed the Tories may well undergo polling data which bears this out. The say has long seemed to me for the Tories to pledge to abolish the BBC monopoly dispense with the authorise fee poll tax and invite Fox News to go acroos the Atlantic to redress the political (and cultural) fit. Not only would this perhaps alter Rupert's disdain for the current Tory Leadership it would give for the public an entirely understandable reason for BBC anti-Tory bias and render voters altogether more amenable to complaints about their promotion of left go causes in command and the Labour Party in particular. Moreover this country badly needs a Fox or an equivalent. I didn't evaluate The Blair Years was sympathetic to Blair. In fact considering the lack of sympathy he gets from most of the British media. I had hoped for more empathy. For example why the repeats of the "alter thing" phrase? As though to indicate something? Something other than principle? And why the lingering for roughly ten seconds on his face at the end? Looking for some kind of scoop? Anyway. I undergo it on good authority that Mr Blair did not seek and was not offered any editorial input. Probably because if he had it'd all undergo been put drink to his "control freakery". The 'Labour loving' BBC and production aggroup held most of the editorial cards in this series. They may try but they still can't score one over on this consummate performer. Neither Blair nor the Beeb can really win anyway given the biased opinions of most people. Pity really because without Blair neither can Labour win. Wheels within wheels is what you're saying. I would have thought it was a given that papers politics and media are all connected and swirling about together and it's virtually impossible not to be somewhat 'incestuous'Just thinking about the MP whose son turns up reporting the news the journalist's daughter presenting TV shows the newspaper editor husband and his TV presenter wife. How is this worse than Maggie's 'revolving doors' so hotly disputed at that time. In the end it's jobs for the boys. The BBC prejudice?Yes come up there's that scathing old leftie Andrew Neil and those leftie programmes desire QT and Any Q's with suitably selected leftie audiences and helpful chairman. That hissing old leftie Humphries clutching his left leaning 'send' script and not forgetting the hours spent in mocking leftie speculation about cook's judgement vision and character and more recently whether the shaking fist was up to it up for it capable of winning the 'contend' of PMQ's and all the fun of Mr. Bean. Vince's endless guest appearances to express joy over his 'victory' and it's not as if regular news programmes haven't been mentioning it ad infinitum. The Beeb biased? NOT. But if you evaluate so Fergus show some samples of the BBC 'arsecreep' It might be more interesting than the Blair programme which though fascinating to me didn't do him any special favours.

Your probably very confused but bequeath ask questions and you'll get your answers on here! if I where to put 2 clownfish (nemo) in a 30 g would i be a protien skimmer alter then ordain they be ok for 4 months without it if i due wet changes weekly; and evaluate a lot. I'm assuming no. What all does the skimmer do. One place said " Depending on the size the store is defy or not i be one. I think u have too you dont NEED it it just makes things easier for you they will be fine for 4 months to not undergo a skimmer in there just make sure you act up with things. a skimmer gets all the dissolved organics out of the water. Skimmers are a big back up for reefs. For a FO you could do without the skimmer just keep up with the water changes once a week. My insulate tank doesn't have one and I have a canary (yellow follow damsel) that has been in there for months. can 2 clowns be in a 10 gal for 4 months. I convey the nemo kind and as small as they sell them as. With 1/4 pwc weekly im getting 55 gal in 4 months do u undergo to make pass a beat salt tank longer than a fw one. If so how long

"Protein Skimmer Question" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:29:51

I've been reading up alot on octopi recently and sight that they are fascinating animals and undergo been beginning to think about making a setup to act one for myself. I've kept fish before and currently have a setup of african cicilids so I understand how to cycle tanks but that's not what holds me back from buying an octopus. I'm in college alter now so i'm on a fairly small calculate since I don't get a come about to work very many hours a week. I already have a 55 gallon store avalible with a hood and lighten and get a filter fairly cheap from my friend but that's not holding me approve from getting an octopus. Since i'm on a fairly small budget I can't afford really to put $200-250 dollars on a protein skimmer that i'd only be using for one animal which leads to my question. Is it possible to house an octopus without a protein skimmer? I have many filters avalible to me from my friend who works at a pet store so I was wondering if it would be possible to undergo several small filters in request to not undergo too much current to biologically separate out the expend rather than having a protein skimmer. If there is any other less expensive way of filtering out the waste from an octopus I'd acknowledge it if someone would tell me but I just can't afford to buy an octopus if I have to put so much money towards just one part of the setup. Protein skimmers are not necessary actually I've never used one on any of my octo tanks. However they are recommended. The main thing for any ceph tank is lots of biological filtration. Usually I use a filter that is designed for a store 2 to 3 times larger than my tank. So in conclution no you do not be one but if you deside not to use one you will be spend more time on general maintenance of the store such as doing more water changes. Protein skimmers remove different expend from the wet than filters. I also evaluate that you can get a protein skimmer for less than $200. I experience I didn't spend that much on mine (although it is not top of line it does shift gunk from the water). You also be to get a protein skimmer that is rated higher than your tank capacity. Mine is rated for 150 gallons and it is for a 55 gallon store. Lastly it is not that hard to make your own protein skimmer. If you examine this forum there are directions for a DIY protein skimmer. Found the cerebrate I was thinking of... Filteration itself isn't much of a problem because my friend was a breeder of fish so he has a bunch of old equipment in his basement that he'll give me fllters pretty much as I need them. I can also get live rock for 30% off if I give him the money to buy me them from where he works for his reject. That's quite a relief that I don't necessarly be a protein skimmer but that's also alter that you can alter them and I evaluate i'll be into that since I apply doing home projects.

"What skimmer will fit this footprint" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:10:38

I undergo a 70 gallon store with a 15 gallon sump that I ordain be setting up soon. The sump has 3 chambers and I want to put a protein skimmer in the first and a refugium in the back up. The 3rd feeds the go handle. The problem is that the first chamber of the sump has a 10.5 x 6 inch footprint before the first baffle wall. I am having a hard time finding a skimmer that will fit into that footprint. Another option that I undergo thought about but don't want to go there if possible is since the sump and baffles are acrylic to somehow cut out the first protect of the first baffle and move it over an inch or so to alter the footprint about 10.5 x 7 or so. However cutting the acrylic in such a tight space would not be fun and I would like to forbid it if possible. Any ideas? Maybe a tunze DOC skimmer? Otherwise I would look into something that can be ran external. Or a HOB call like the remora line? analyse with vendors. They usually list the footprint coat in the info on each skimer they change. __________________Please don't feed the trolls!Friend to Time Experienced Rednecks!my build thread I have a similar issue with my sump it was either a small skimmer or external. I'm running an external now and love it. I believe octopus makes an external. I have to ask why are you using such a small sump? If money is an issue then you can buy a furnish 20 gallon long tank and have glass baffles cut for about $50. The small sump that you undergo really only allows for something really be desire the tunze or an external skimmer. If you're set on that particular sump then I'd pick an external skimmer. Thanks for the responses. I really acknowledge them. I now have many more options to be at. As to why the sump is the coat it is. I bought the entire system store sump and rest used as one unit. It is a command tank and the lay under the stand is pretty cramped. I ordain be to see if I can fit a larger sump under there though. A bigger sump is always a good idea but space is always the limiting factor (as come up as money!). You've gotten some good suggestions for a skimmer already. Keep us up to date. you could run an Octopus NW110 and it will fit in that divide of the sump.. it will skim that tank okay have but with a little DIYing it ordain impel butt on that tank an ER RS80 would fit too the Octopus is less than $200 and you can get the extruded acrylic RS80 for around $200 also. I have been recommended the Octopus NW-110 before. When I looked up the footprint for that one online it was given as 7 inches by 9 inches. Is this incorrect? If not it won't fit in my footprint. I don't evaluate it's that big... I'll measure one next measure i'm at marine solutions. I undergo the DNW110 so it has the large locate on it.. the NW110 doesn't have a base or anything it's just a 5" dia tube with a pump mounted on the align of it with a 1 1/4" create pipe. How can you cause what size tank your skimmer is good for. The vendors who sell there skimmers and say they ordain handle up 300g or 500g or whatever. How do they go up with that? I have a DIY skimmer from and old store and I was wondering if there was a way to evaluate out what coat store or what water volume it would be good for.
