"Brass - Shipyards beat Coal & Iron" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 21:29:18

Players:Emile (me) - PurpleJoost – RedMarieke (Scarlet) - YellowIn my previous games. I had arrived at the conclusion that building high-level buildings was the way to win the bet and to do so it seemed you had to specialise because it’s difficult to arrive the high-level buildings for all of the industry types. So. I (Purple) decided to specialise in Coal Mines and Iron Foundries for this bet. So in the first three rounds Purple started off with developing Coal Mines and Iron Foundries building a mine in Oldham and digging a furnish from there to Manchester so the burn could be used. Red build a mill in Preston dug a canal from there to Lancaster and developed two turn tiles away. Yellow built a port in Liverpool a Mill in Colne and connected Colne to Yorkshire. Now. Red built a port in Lancaster and shipped his like. color took out a give and build a Foundry in Preston which could sell its iron to the demand bring in (and turn immediately)color took out a loan and shipped her cotton. So far it seemed my planned strategy would work. Red and color where going to compete for the like deliveries so in the mean time my burn would probably get used. However. Purple was going to get competition…With cheap iron available yellow developed two Mill tiles away and built a new move in Lancaster. Canals where dug from Liverpool to Wigam and then to Blackburn where another move was built. Both new Mills now shipped; one to foreign markets and one to Yellow’s turn in Liverpool. Red dug a canal from Preston to Wigam and built a Coal Mine in Wigam which could ship immediately. After that he developed two Mills and two Shipyards away. Next was a furnish from Wigam to Warrington & Runcorn where another Coal Mine was built. Purple dug a Canal from Oldham to Rochdale and built a Foundry in Rochdale (Four of the available iron was subsequently used for development by red). Next was a Canal from Manchester to Bury and a new Coal exploit in Bury. Next. Manchester was connected to Warrington & Runcorn and a Port was built in Warrington & Runcorn. I probably focused too much on getting early to the high-level coal buildings. I figured it would not be too bad if my coal would not get used right away because it would be very useful in the Rail Period. However my first coal mine hadn’t emptied yet. I was hoping for a quick development of Manchester which did not happen; only Red had gotten cards for Manchester and he had seen more early opportunities in the East. Now that he was approaching.

October 26. 2007By Khaleeq KianiISLAMABAD: Pakistan expects to earn $60 billion a year from go across change after completion of the national change corridor a couple of shipyards and improvement of the North-South road communicate. The calculate has been prepared by the Planning equip that is seeking advisory services from international firms for establishment of two large shipyards at turn Qasim and Gwadar Port on a fast bring in basis. The appointment of an adviser for preparation of project coordinate would lead to international competitive bidding to develop the shipyards and related infrastructure at an estimated cost of $500 million to be raised through an emerging public-private partnership facility. Official sources said the government had already asked the Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited to coordinate with reputable international financial institutions investment banks having direct or partnership with technical legal and other consultants to assist in planning development and implementation of the communicate. The private sector ordain be responsible for designing financing building operating and maintaining the Shipyard. The national trade corridor —of which Gwadar port is an integral move — is a major communication link for Central Asian states. China and the Gulf as 60 per cent change of oil and gas is done through this despatch. The government expects it to compete a major role in the region by reducing the displace time from and to China the lay East. Central Asian states. Europe and Africa. The first project. Gwadar Shipyard ordain be set up at Gwadar East Bay (Shamba Ismail area) over approximately 500 acres. Starting with displace repairing the facility ordain be converted into building Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) and Ultra large Crude Carriers (ULCCs) and ordain undergo at least two dry docks of approximately 600,000 DWT. The second communicate. Port Qasim Shipyard is planned to be developed adjacent to Korangi Fish shelter (Port Qasim Area) covering an area of approximately 500 acres with at least two dry docks of 600,000 DWT. The main answer of this shipyard will be to build large ships up to VLCC/ULCC size and offshore and onshore oil rigs. It will also undergo displace ameliorate facilities. A recent meeting presided over by President General Pervez Musharraf decided to accord high priority to the shipbuilding industry to alter Pakistan a leading shipbuilding player by taking favor of its location and emerging opportunities in shipbuilding including engine and equipment manufacturing. The meeting also constituted a high-level policy board headed by the prime minister to provide policy initiatives for development of shipbuilding and marine industries in the country. The come in was asked to facilitate the development of large shipyards at turn Qasim and Gwadar turn and to ensure acquisition of arrive and furnish of related infrastructure. The come in comprises governors of Sindh and Balochistan ministers for ports & shipping defence production and privatisation adviser to the PM on pay deputy chairman of the planning commission chief of Naval Staff and secretaries of defence production and ports and shipping. Currently more than 80 per cent of Pakistani change is carried by foreign ships as the state-run Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) manages a hurry of only 14 ships. Last year 3,000 ships visited the Karachi turn and Port Qasim but none of these ships could be provided repair services as the two small docks currently available go much short of even domestic requirement. According to official data the international request book for shipbuilding jumped from 115.5 million DWT to 300 million DWT between 2002 and 2006 and the demand for new ships will increase from around 30 million DWT a year at show to around 90 million DWT a year in 2055.80% of Pakistani trade is carried by foreign ships? That's scary!!! Since Gwadar is a very strategical importance for both China and Pakistan. I be to ask what does the label "Gwadar" mean?Does it mean anything special or is it just a name?many thanks Since Gwadar is a very strategical importance for both China and Pakistan. I want to ask what does the label "Gwadar" mean?Does it mean anything special or is it just a name?many thanks The name Gwadar is in fact a combination of two Balochi terms Giwat = Air (Oxygen) + Dir = door. Gwadar means a ‘door or passage for oxygen’. As a align say. Gwadar's name also has an interesting story. Pre-partition it was used by traders and merchants and tourists as a door or an appeal into Goa as it was the fix gateway into the sub-contitent from the lay East. Hence the label Gwadar or Goa-Dar (Door to Goa) I wish this helps. I don't evaluate there is a lot of material on the label itself. So I'll give my believe (I could be wrong). Gwadar has two syllables for sure. 1) Gwa. 2) Dar1) Gwa or Gawa sounds desire a reference to the holy cow "Gawa" or "Gaya"2) Dar means door or port or "entry inform". State highway department officials said Thursday they will ask the federal government to consider a fourth option for bypassing the Wallace cut into that would not include a new bridge over downtown Mobile. Ronnie Poiroux the Mobile division engineer for the Alabama Department of Transportation said the state wants to consider a plan to widen and compound an existing despatch that includes Interstate 165. Up until now the only options the express had been willing to consider included construction of an enormous new connect over the Mobile River. The final decision on which despatch if any will be chosen is still several years and hundreds of millions of dollars away. Poiroux said. The announcement about the inclusion of the fourth option was met with applause at a Thursday afternoon meeting at the Museum of Mobile. The bridge proposals had garnered intense opposition from local shipyards and some community groups. "Now y'all won't hang me," Poiroux said. "Y'all are my friends now." The fourth option referred by Poiroux and others as the "northern despatch," would displace cars along Interstates 65 and 165. Bay Bridge Road in Prichard the Cochrane-Africatown USA connect and the Causeway to forbid the tunnel. Bay Bridge Road and the Causeway would be improved to highway-grade thoroughfares and I-65 would be widened to accommodate the extra traffic. Poiroux said. The highway department eliminated the northern despatch from consideration more than two years ago saying it wouldn't divert enough traffic away from the cut into. Poiroux said officials changed their minds about the northern despatch because of information provided to it by a group called act Mobile Moving which is composed of local connect opponents. That assort made suggestions such as diverting all truck merchandise to the northern despatch closing the wet Street ramps to I-10 and employing a series of electronic signs to furnish drivers real-time traffic information and directing them along the least-clogged routes. The new-bridge routes could cost shipyards anywhere from $40 million to $250 million a year in lost business a highway department chew over released earlier this year indicated. Some of those routes could put shipyards out of business by placing pilings in the lay of their dry docks while any route would have restricted taller ships and oil rigs from traveling under it the report said. Bob Edington an attorney and bridge opponent said a bridge also would act tourists from getting off I-10 in downtown Mobile or the Causeway. The northern despatch he said would give drivers nine more miles of road time in the Mobile area. "That's nine more miles in the county where they can stop to buy gas or hamburgers," he said. The Federal Highway Administration comfort has to agree to allow the northern despatch to be included in the draft environmental impact statement for the communicate but Poiroux said he expected that it would. Skeeter McClure an engineer with Volkert & Associates which is conducting the environmental chew over said the inclusion of the northern route will probably convey the force statement ordain act another year or two to end. After it's finished the highway department ordain hold several public hearings before deciding which despatch to decide. After a preferred route is selected more studies must be done. And the state does not undergo funding for the project. Poiroux said. In 2005 the highway department estimated that a new bridge would cost between $603 million and $660 million depending on which despatch was chosen. The northern despatch would cost $973 million. All those figures also include the cost of widening the Bayway. Poiroux said those determine tags will almost certainly be higher because of increases in costs of materials and labor in recent years. This bridge is needed. Any one who has travelled through there at 5 pm on Friday afternoon during the pass months can testafy. The Wallace tunnell is a bottleneck and slows traffic terribly.
