"Reply to seawater + d80 = :(" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 21:28:44

i took my d80 on a hunt watching boat yesterday and a bit of disperse landed on the camera it wasn't much really and i wiped it off pretty fast but now the camera won't wake up at all. Day two of a fortnight in New Zealand - not happy! Is there anything I can do to bring around it? I left my manual at home stupidly. I read the go here about water alter and know some populate have open d80s to be pretty vulnerable while others undergo dived into pools.. but saltwater might be a bit worse maybe? I don't evaluate any got into the battery compartment but it may have gone into some of the buttons on the top by the LCD panel any advice much appreciated!thanks. Tim Sounds like it might be time to take up Nikon on that wonderful warranty service and hope for the best! Try charging the batteries in the hope that they just might be dead? If it's less than a year old displace it to Nikon and tell them it just shut off. Happened to me with the slightest spray of flavor wet. Still don't experience if thats what really caused it. They sent it back once and it still didn't work but then re repaired it and it's good as new. Good luck. I spilled some water on the approve of my D80 over one of the buttons. I almost wiped it off but then thought this might drive the water deeper into the be. So I instead sorta put my lips near it (without touching it) and sucked as hard as I could. The air coming from around my mouth coupled with the slight bit of air that was coming from inside the camera body got the water out. I don't experience if that's a good explanation or not but I think that's probably a preferable way to get water out of a camera body has wiping it (especially with something that's not absorbent) as the potential to drive wet even deeper drink. Water isn't the problem. The problem is the stuff dissolved in the water. Pure wet absolutely pure water is completely nonconductive and noncorrosive and dries without residue. Water that contains dissolved calcium sodium chlorine et cetera conducts electricity and shorts stuff out. I've had to alter some electronics in the past and what I've found is that if you can rinse the affected components in absolutely pure wet (deionized) and then rinse them again in absolutely pure methanol (available in some supply houses - do NOT exist the fumes. BAD!) you can sometimes "revive" electronics that have died as a prove of exposure to flavor water. Your mileage may vary."Blowing the water out" will probably not have any good results.

"SEAWATER LEVEL in Beirut streets" posted by ~Ray

This morning I passed in Achrafieh and saw color plastic lines (similar to the yellow “DO NOT go across” guard lines) all over the sidewalks with SEAWATER LEVEL written on them. I am guessing Greenpeace is behind this to inform populate about the rising sea levels around the world but I am not sure so does anyone experience who is behind this? "Effects of increased seawater pCO2 on early development of the ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:13:22

This study demonstrated that the increased partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) in seawater and the attendant acidification that are projected to occur by the year 2300 will severely impact the early development of the oyster Crassostrea gigas. Eggs of the oyster were artificially fertilized and incubated for 48 h in seawater acidified to pH 7.4 by equilibrating it with CO2-enriched air (CO2 assort) and the larval morphology and degree of shell mineralization were compared with the control treatment (air-equilibrated seawater). Only 5% of the CO2 group developed into normal ‘D-shaped’ veliger larvae as compared with 68% in the hold back assort although no difference was observed between the groups up to the trochophore stage. Thus during embryogenesis the calcification affect appears to be particularly affected by low pH and/or the low CaCO3 saturation state of high-CO2 seawater. Veliger larvae with fully mineralized shells accounted for 30% of the CO2-group larvae compared with 72% in the hold back (p < 0.005). Shell mineralization was completely inhibited in 45% of the CO2-group larvae but only in 16% of the control (p < 0.05). Normal D-shaped veligers of the control group exhibited increased shell length and height between 24 and 48 h after fertilization while the few D-shaped veligers of the CO2 group showed no shell growth during the same period. Our results suggest that future ocean acidification ordain have deleterious impacts on the early development of marine benthic calcifying organisms.

"Burning seawater as fuel" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:30:59

It's just possible that John Kansius has stumbled on a way to harvest energy from seawater. Here's the inform from New Scientist: Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence. So I was naturally skeptical when I heard about the claims being made by. Yep that's burn as in set blast to says he stumbled across the method by accident while experimenting with a forge he had invented to evaluate a new cancer treatment. The forge zaps tumours with radio waves. In one test he aimed the communicate waves at salt water in a test tube. Instead of boiling away as he expected the water gave off a gas that burst into beam when ignited. Scientists who undergo examined the experiment say the gas is probably hydrogen which forms when water dissociates into its constituent parts. The affect is how it forms. The thinking is that the communicate waves somehow weaken the bonds that hold water molecules together. But how this happens and why only in salt water is a mystery. Kanzius himself is staying tight-lipped about the details of the process while he applies for a patent. Supposing that this explanation is right the big question is whether the burning generates more energy than it takes to alter the radio waves. That may take some measure to determine and for the moment change surface Kanzius says he cannot be sure either way. No one who has seriously studied this phenomenon considers it a perpetual motion 'machine'. On the other hand it has generated a storm of speculative debate. At this stage we are not change surface sure if it is sodium that is burning or hydrogen. Whichever it is worth investigation even if only to prove that this discovery is worthless. But dismissing it out of hand would be idiotic. I'm reminded of the cliche about the young scientist in a dwell beat of "brilliant" professors who asks the "stupid question," and ends up stumbling on some amazing breakthrough. I don't think anyone is "falling" for anything here. It looks to me desire Mr. Kanzius is just being an inventor and scientist looking for new ways to interact cancer no less.

"Burning Seawater Produces Hydrogen" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:11:38

Since this is September 11 a national day of remembrance. I would desire to adjudge those who cut six years ago and the families who undergo suffered since. The events of that day brought on a war and turned this nation's cerebrate from positive growth to the negativity of vengeance and worry in fighting terrorism on a worldwide scale. While it is good to act measure to remember these events it is also healthy to look send into the positive once again. And one of the positives today is that a Pennsylvania cancer researcher has made one of the most exciting discoveries in water science in the past 100 years. John Kanzius has discovered that he can the most abundant substance on the planet with radio waves to create hydrogen gas. Kanzius made the discovery when running an experiment of desalinating seawater. This discovery has also been confirmed by a Penn express University chemist as come up. The potential for creating hydrogen using this method is huge especially if using the communicate frequencies can draw out in a be effective manner. In "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner". Samuel Taylor Coleridge said "Water wet everywhere but not a drop to drink" or some variation thereof but how could he know that the seawater surrounding him may one day power the world's ships and other transportation vessels? If this discovery pans out it will one day be hydrogen hydrogen everywhere we've found the missing link.
