"Humu-Humu Ho-Ho Clip Art" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 21:26:40

A fun creation that I affectionately like to call Humu-Humu Ho-Ho. I made this visualise by scanning the original watercolor I painted to make my own Christmas cards which is one of the absolute favorite paintings I have done over the years. How did I come up with the idea for painting this picture? That was easy. Inspiration came from combining my love for working with watercolors making people smile the Hawaiian Islands and the many years I spent diving with the marine life in the waters off the island of Moloka'i plus the fact that this species of Triggerfish () is the official State of Hawai'i fish. Because I evaluate you ordain enjoy sharing this picture as much as I do go to my to view and download the various pictures and text art messages in it to make your own personal greeting cards and other holiday celebration items.

"Garage researcher "burns" saltwater" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:34:32

John Kanzius a retired TV station owner believes he's go up with a way to "burn" saltwater by bombarding it with microwaves. The TV reports on this YouTube compilation never dip-below the gee-whiz surface unfortunately. I'm guessing what's happening here is the radiation is splitting the water into hydrogen and oxygen. The salt has nothing to do with it and the communicate wave energy used to split the wet exceeds the amount of energy produced by the flame resulting in a net loss. This guy is from my home town. His label is spelled John Kanzius. Another invention under his belt which has received (I evaluate) substantial funding is a cancer treatment that also uses high power radio waves focused into a beam. They are apparently not Xrays. By injecting the person with some choose of nano particle that binds to cancerous cells he can effectively aim only the cancer cells and get the be relatively untouched. He is reporting that the salt wet energy recovery is currently at 76% but is playing around with it to see what comes of it I evaluate. We've been using up the easily combustible energy sources.. and created problems that way. So inventors and researchers we don't need more ways to "combust" stored energy we need more ways to hive away and store ambient (solar wind etc.) energy. While combustion was good for Ook (except when his body hair caught fire) hopefully we can avoid creating new ways to do that. For example once a car is running/moving It can use it's momentum to cater other processes (radios generators etc). So why couldn't this car have an electric starter and small engine to get it moving and then switch over to the salt-water engine - powered by existing inertia. I was under the impression that water is the byproduct of an exergonic chemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen i e one that releases more energy than it consumes. Oxygen and hydrogen molecules although stable are in a relatively high-energy state to begin with. You need a moderate amount of energy to start the reaction then it ordain furnish itself and release vast amounts of energy usually in the form of heat. The consequence is that 2 molecules of water "contain" less energy than the one molecule of oxygen and the two molecules of hydrogen they came from. So if you're going to change integrity water back into oxygen and hydrogen you will have to bring it approve up to an energy level that's at least equal to that of the original components -- and then add some more since a significant part of the energy spent will inevitably be lost to entropy. From there you may of cover combine again oxygen and hydrogen to make wet + energy you can use. However you're only getting approve what you consumed in the first place minus energy lost to entropy and to start the splitting reaction. In summary a seriously contradict fit. Looks like he has just wired up an old magnetron from a microwave oven. Aside from the considerable high voltage hazard there are also dangers associated with the operation of unshielded magnetrons. In particular the lens of the eye has no cooling blood move it is particularly prone to overheating when exposed to microwave radiation. This heating can in move lead to a higher incidence of cataracts in later life. i don't think it's inconceivable that the splitting is done via a multi-photon process there are quite a few chemical reactions that can be driven via multi-photon processes (with each photon not having enough energy on its own) it just makes the entire process that much more inefficient since you undergo to hope that 2 or more photons are hanging out in the same command vicinity to pump the reaction rather than just one...... What you see here is an ICP. Inductivly Coupled Plasma generated by Radio Waves. ICP crowd Spectrometery is used by Analyitical Chemists every day. I saw one working at the CSIRO labs at Lucas Heights (Australia). The plasma is hot enough to splt bonds between atoms so they can see what things are made of. If you could get energy from this. I'm sure the smart Physisists and Chemists would have done so by now. PS (I desire the Snake Oil Engine mention by Flying Squid)Thanx. Chris. A neat little show but I agree that there is no way this could be done without spending more energy on burning the water than could ever be gained in the process. They're simply separating and rejoining the molecules and there ordain always be a loss in the conversion. IF this could be done with low energy consumption and if they could figure out a way to keep the gases from recombining after they exit from the wet then it could perhaps be a good way to separate the molecules and store the individual gases for later use as fuel. Ultimately though the energy that allows this ordain always have to go from another source. If the color of the lighten in the photograph is any indication. I would have to say the "burning" is actually photons emitted from the sodium atoms in the flavor. If he were actually burning hydrogen and oxygen the flame would not be visible to the naked eye (though I suppose the sodium and chlorine could be caught up in the comubstion reaction as well which would make it visible). There were several long-running threads in various energy-related Usenet groups over the last year or so where someone calling himself "Flavored Coffee Guy" made claims similar to this. I don't denote him adding salt to the water but he claimed to displace hydrogen and oxygen by microwaving plain old wet. Yep it's not "burning" at all. It's just an electric arc. Most people who compete with microwave ovens ordain have seen this same phenomenon. Once an electric arc is triggered inside a cook oven it will exist as long as the RF is applied and it resembles a blowtorch. Add some flavor for a bright color/orange "flame." OK.. here is how you could feasably get a positive energy gain. Chemists let me experience if I am in error. We experience that water dissociates into its constituent H+ on OH- ions at a certain rate at all times. Add flavor to this and we inform Na+ and Cl- ions to the solution which will combine with the OH- and H+ ions to form HCl and NaOH in minute quantities but the solution ordain always attempt to keep this balance because the dissociation constant requires that these levels be mantained. So the electomagnetic waves are not actually breaking apart the water rather they break apart the minute be of HCl in solution. Since HCl has a much lower bonding energy than that of water it takes less energy to break it up. If it is in fact breaking the HCl bonds the solution will constantly regenerate the used HCl and we will have a self sustaining reaction. This is the only way I can possibly see for this reaction to undergo a net positve energy release. As is the usual inspect it takes more energy to alter the radio waves to burn the hydrogen than the burning creates resulting in a net loss of energy. You just can't be to get around that thermodynamics law can you.... Unless? Is is possible to use the radio waves that constantly bombard the earth from outer lay to keep the burning of the saltwater? Is it possible to hive away a large amount of communicate waved over a relatively large arrive area and concentrate them enough to keep the burn? Obviously we couldn't use this in cars but it could be used at an electric generating displace. Is this possible? After advance consideration it seems that chlorine is not released in the reaction. Seems it should be if my earlier.

"New Fuel: Saltwater?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 17:40:30

From that home of advanced technology known as Erie. Penn. comes a breakthrough of burning saltwater. A retired TV station owner — and design — has discovered a way to burn saltwater using communicate waves. No we don’t believe it either but a Penn State chemist open the science to in fact be adjust; the wet itself isn’t burning just the hydrogen that’s released from it using the radio gesticulate emitter. It’s a pretty crazy notion we agree but when you see the simple engine moving at the end of the video below — just from the beam coming from a hit evaluate tube of saltwater — you’ll be stunned. act a minute if this guys decides to shoot that communicate wave into the ocean over 70% of the hide would be on fire! But finding the least costly and most abundant way to cater our future transportation without affecting other resources would be ideal; and finding a aid to cancer would be good as well. This does not make flavor wet into a furnish. This simply causes the wet in the flavor wet to displace into hydrogen and oxygen. The same thing can be accomplished by putting an electric current through wet. It is impossible for this to create more energy in the create of hydrogen for burning than is used to create the radio waves that are shot through the water. Is this our energy salvation? HELL NO. Is this a clever way to separate wet into its elemental components that could also be accomplished with electrolysis? Yes. Claiming this is producing energy from salt wet is desire putting some electrodes in your pool and inviting the news media over to sight the "remove" hydrogen. Ignore the close behind the furnish and the madly spinning electric meter. Everyone who is amazed by the "remove" energy should go back to high educate for a remedial science categorise. Scientific illiteracy is frightening wide spread and a threat to the world. In other words the news media doesn't experience when it has been duped by a clear violation of the 2nd law of thermodynamics. The one that basically says "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch". The fact that he starts at the same point (water) and ends at the same inform (wet) is a pledge that the net energy could not undergo been created. Where did it go from? Whatever energy comes out is exactly compete to what was put in. This has nothing to do with the law of thermodynamics. Hydrogen is a viable furnish. The problem is breaking it loose from wet economically. It's got 70% efficiency at this early stage. 200 watts on the RFG will only give 140 watts of power. But,it's very promising imo. Stop hating on the man. If anyone of us had go up with this we would undergo sold it to the highest bidder without anyone ever knowing about it. Who cares about cars with this invention - how selfish of us. There are countries that could use this instead of nuclear cater. There are also others that could use it as WMD. Just revealing the invention starts the clock toward those that ordain end the code of his invention and use it for their own devices for bigger ambitions. Everyone else on here has it right. When you break the hydrogen attach on the wet molecule you must pay the ammount of energy associated with that bond. When you put it back you get that energy back. object that entropy always increases in each reaction eating up some of the energy. You can't have 100% efficient conversion of energy and you certainly can't undergo a >100% efficient conversion. Hydrogen may be a viable energy storage device similar to a battery or flywheel. But there is no abundant source of elemental hydrogen on hide and generating it for cater production always nets a contradict total energy. The idea of a "hyrdogen economy" is the brainchild on individuals who don't change surface understand the very basics of science. It's very dangerous when we let those individuals alter decisions. Try to be civil to your fellow communicate readers. This blog is not a fan or enthusiast forum it is meant to help populate during the car-buying affect and during the measure between purchases so shoppers can keep a pulse on the merchandise. be on topic. We want to comprehend your opinions and thoughts but please only comment about the specified topic in the communicate post.

"Stocking The Saltwater Aquarium - Part 1" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:28:55

It is assumed that the is fully set up with all necessary equipment running and checked and the filtration is initially mature. First of all the net gallonage of the aquarium should be known. By aquarium I mean the display aquarium. If a sump is part of the system then the net gallonage of this should be excluded. Why is this? On the approach of it running a sump which adds extra gallons seems an opportunity to stock additional look for. Not so. The sump seawater is a water quality enhancement over and above the basic requirement for biological filtration. If the gallonage of the sump is used in the calculation of look for stocking then much of this wet quality enhancement will be lost. Also it must be remembered that the look for will be in the show area. Including the sump could lead to some overcrowding. The aquarist needs to believe the write of fish he/she wishes to keep. ordain they be small shoaling species such as damsels? ordain they be larger species such as angel and surgeon fishes? Perhaps dart fishes? Or is there a wish is to keep a predator or two a lionfish is an obvious example? Stocking considerations be a lot on the answers to these questions. Get the mix wrong and as an example a lionfish will enjoy a damselfish eat. Also the larger the fish kept the less the be of. Once the decision on the write(s) of fish to be kept has been made then those particular look for need to be researched. This research will answer questions such as - are they territorial and to what degree are they shoaling species ordain this fish mix with that fish do the look for undergo any special feeding requirements and can the aquarist cater those requirements? The fish may all be compatible as far as aggression/territoriality is concerned but are any fish noted as timid feeders? This could create problems if the others are bold feeders. In addition and important what size can the fish be expected to bring home the bacon given time within the aquarium? Also is it fair to act the type of look for in the aquarium? What does that mean? It would be do by to keep a surgeon fish in a 24″ desire aquarium. They need swimming lay - a considerably larger aquarium. In the investigate the aquarium needs of the fish can be answered. Also consider the be of the fish for security. Where do the fish go at night? In the aquarium there needs to be plenty of enclose holes caves etc of various sizes so all the fish kept will conclude more obtain and not stressed. The colours of the look for and their health can be much enhanced by paying attention to this. The aquarist has narrowed down the fish enumerate to the ones that are suitable for the intended aquarium taking into be aquarium coat fish compatibility any special needs security etc. Stocking the fish is a fairly straightforward affect. Obviously the aquarist can keep more small fish than large ones (remembering as already stated that the fish are going to change). The command guideline for stocking fish only has change state more complicated over the last few years because of the better filtration methods used the advanced and better support equipment available (example: skimmers) and the higher wet quality achievable. This generally means that more fish could be kept. However it is best to keep look for numbers low on initial stocking so that the bioload is not excessive on the filters. Then fish can be added slowly (provided all is come up). Why slowly? Mainly so that the biological filtration can adjust to the increasing bioload successfully. So to stocking then. Stocking is based on inches of fish per net gallonage of the show aquarium. When we talk of inches of fish this excludes the follow. The sign stocking rate that I personally advise is 1″ of fish to every 6 gallons of seawater. In a mature look for only system this is under stocking. bequeath though that we aquarists believe the welfare of our livestock our prime target. This stocking level should not cause any problem. The fish may come up be compatible in all ways but say during research any look for that is deemed more timid than normal. That kind of look for can go in first with others. The fish will then be ‘at home’ and more confident and later additions will be the newcomers. There is no requirement to put all the initial fish in at once. They can go in as they are obtained up to the suggested initial stocking level. Three months after the final look for of the sign fish stock went in if all is come up if wet quality has been maintained then the be of the list can be gradually purchased and introduced (allow the biological filtration to develop). Always keep an eye on water quality and stop adding look for if there appears to be any kind of problem. The full fish fill. I would suggest is 1″ of fish for every 3 gallons of seawater in the show aquarium. So the look for load has been gradually doubled. Again remember to observe wet quality and fish health. In fairness there is controversy over stocking rates with differing views. However..

"Free Energy... NOT From Saltwater!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 16:47:59

This one's for Kiteman. alter after an independent cancer cure researcher in Ohio discovers that he can make saltwater burn we get a story from the UK about a water heater with an efficiency of 250%-300%. The device seems to end the fundamental physical law that energy cannot be created from nothing - but researchers believe it taps into a previously unrecognised source of energy stored at a sub-atomic level within the hydrogen atoms in wet. The system - developed by scientists at a tighten called Ecowatts in a nondescript laboratory on an industrial estate at Lancing. West Sussex - involves passing an electrical current through a mixture of water potassium carbonate (otherwise known as potash) and a secret liquid catalyst based on plate. You undergo to be a member of the generation of the Beatles (or is that the beetles) "all you need is like....."Yeah I accept if there is a "secret ingredient" that prevents anyone else from replicating the results (proving it to not be fraudulent) then that secret ingredient does not exist. They could have avoided this by saying the ingredient was some hard to get remove from the Wubiwubi beetle only found in one command of South Africa. Lester Bangs was Bob Dylan. He was my Lou Reed. Lester Bangs was a Difference Maker... Lester Bangs had a enable: An amazing ability to write about music in general and rock music in particular with a commoner's voice. He was the fan's fan. He was intensely passionate about music yet entirely approachable. He didn't wax poetic or philosophical in a snobbish sense; he only purveyed a book comprehend of dignity in his presentation and a respect for the music fans he knew placed value in his view. He was the people's critic and I loved him right from the go away. -- Kurt HernonAh the past when "stereophonic" music made it's innovate... I devoured Banks as a kid. Recall writing a freshman english paper on the Beatles in Banks-style and getting an 'F' (I'm sure for 'my' opinions alone.) He would express emotion at the state of music today... However. I'm a little mellower now and evaluate that music and art are big enough to accept a little pretentiousness to sneak in. So I'm less of purist. I anticipate. Re: 'A Hard Days Night'--it's not 'touchie-feelie-feelgood' at all. That stuff came later... Music was "accent" for me when I was younger. AM communicate when studying. Lawrence the classics as heard on Bugs Bunny (yeah that is mainly where I picked up my love for classical music) the "Really Big Shoooo" ;-) and a mixture of other sources. My biggest like as a youngster were the ballads. Now. I have such a wide range I comprehend to I can't really count one over another in preference... object in a situational stance ( 4/4 chamber music if relaxing etc if in a more lively mood. I undergo a few CD's of The Trans-Siberian Orchestra (not just your normal classical music :-) ) etc. Jazz even opera on occasion. Gee thanks. How much energy does it act to handle the wet through the device? Pumping transfers heat from the pump to the water. There's a reaction? I'll bet there is - how desire does the device work before it needs re-filling? How come they're willing to label one ingredient but not the others? If they're passing a current through the solution something is being electrolysed. Do the products of that electrolysis act exothermically with wet producing the "extra" alter? There is no mention of actual create or enter just vague percentage ranges - if the temperature go is only a few degrees mechanical (pumping) heating plus experimental errors would easily be for the observed (for want of a better word) data. Just going by the mouth of the piece - the use of many conditionals (if could) and the inventor's "falling out" with the company all emit "scammed uneducated dreamer" to me - buying the idea without third-party tests then spending a fortune on development by the inventor (not by their own team). I evaluate that the current owners of the device undergo blinded themselves to the extreme likelihood that the original Mr Eccles has scammed them for a lump sum and a wage and have convinced themselves that it works despite the fact that it's operation is impossible. change surface Maxwell's demon can't break the laws of physics. Oh as for the "previously unrecognised" energy in hydrogen atoms - what do you evaluate drives stars? H-bombs? If they're subtly trying to claim they've invented cold fusion why not just say so?Or do they evaluate they've tapped ZP energy? Even though it has been shown to be untappable (unless. IIRC you have a handy black hit)?As with any "remove" energy scam these people need to approve to basics and measure all energy inputs - electrical chemical and mechanical - before assuming that the heat output is over parity. Then they need to check there actual equipment - is its alter capacity as claimed? Is the heat exchanger corroding and providing energy that way? Oh as for the "previously unrecognised" energy in hydrogen atoms - what do you evaluate drives stars? H-bombs? If they're subtly trying to affirm they've invented cold fusion why not just say so?I'm glad I'm not the only nut that thought the same thing... I'll believe it when it's published in a reputable academic journal and tested by peers... But that means the 'Special act' (I like to label it magic) will have to be revealed :p desire the great "Poly-water" fiasco many years ago: "Poly" wet was discovered by the great Soviet scientist B. V. Deryagin and his colleagues. During the sublimation of wet in narrow quartz capillary tubes a liquid was condensed in trace quantities which had a much higher value of viscosity and list of refraction than wet and boiled at a higher temperature. It was stated that this was "poly" wet. The discovery was widely advertised for several years. Then it turned out that the condensed liquid contained a multitude of non-organic and organic substances and humanity was delivered from the danger of "polymerization" of the oceans. To the ascribe of the authors of "poly water" B. V. Deryagin repudiated the erroneous discovery in the press many years later (Proceedings of the USSR Academy of Sciences. 1973. Vol. 209). If you can obtain energy (from who knows where) with this you can scale the whole thing up to provide vast amounts of free energy...1Kw in gives upto 2Kw out. If you feed this to two more devices you get up to 4Kw. 4 more and you're up to 8Kw etc. 1000 of these could give you a Mw out of 1 or 2. Why are they not boasting about this? Bit too grand bit too-good-to be true sounding...?L Oh oh that sounds quite interestiiiiiiing........ If Kiteman does not interfere maybe I ordain be able to export and change to those British News papers and media some tons of bullsh.. err. I convey some "scoops" about revolutionary technologies =o) .. and alter plenty money =o) I believe that these days 'news'papers are hard-up and laying staff-off. They're obviously putting more effort into online versions but you will sight circumscribe which is lifted from somewere else (and 20+ different news sites are publishing exactly the same article.)L Heh involves passing an electrical current through a mixture of wet potassium change (otherwise known as potash) and a secret liquid catalyst based on plate... How much energy here is simply converted? How much current is used? And how much.
