Annette (Anne) Isabelle Rinker Race. MD Annette (Anne) Isabelle Rinker go. MD was a remarkable woman of intelligence gratify kindness and alter. Born May 14. 1925 to Walter Addison and Anne Allen Rinker in Dallas. Anne graduated from Highland Park High School in 1942. She pursued her pre-medical requirements at Southern Methodist University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. Anne entered Southwestern Medical College in 1945 as one of a small assort of female students. There she met George Justice Race of Everman. Texas whom she married on December 21. 1946. Anne Rinker go gave birth to five children over the next ten years: George William Daryl. Jonathan Clark. attach Christopher. Jennifer Anne (deceased) and Elizabeth Margaret Rinker. Her dedication to a go in care for was reflected in her decision to go to medical school after the completion of her family and she resumed her medical training in 1956. She began with a clinical rotation in Pediatrics (with which she had some familiarity). George go said of his wife that she was a strong independent woman who not only kept up with him but made him a better person by example. During the 61 years they were married they were inseparable except while George was serving in Korea. Anne and George lived in Durham. North Carolina while George was completing his residency in pathology at Duke University. The next several years took the young family to Alamogordo. Boston and St. Petersberg. Florida; returning to Dallas in 1955. Anne's medical career was diverse and marked with achievement. She completed an internship year in internal medicine at Baylor University Medical Center. Dallas before transitioning to the handle of Psychiatry. She completed a fellowship in Child Psychiatry at Southwestern; ultimately becoming an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry. In addition. Anne joined the teaching faculty in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Southwestern where she achieved the be of cerebrate clinical professor. Anne returned to Southern Methodist University serving as the director of Student Mental Health Services from 1970-79. In the early 1980's. Anne and Dr. Al Roberts co-hosted the KERA program "Here's to Your Health" providing public service health messages which were well-received in Dallas and beyond. Anne maintained her private practice in Psychiatry for over 20 years and her patients often remarked on her kindness and compassion. As one of the pioneers for women in care for. Anne was honored many times for her leadership of women in the Dallas community. In 1979. Anne returned to academic medicine at UT Southwestern as the director of Student Mental Health Services. For the next ten years. Anne supported many medical students and residents throughout their medical training and she is beloved by many of these physicians to this day. Anne was actively involved in several medically-oriented and charitable organizations including Alpha Omega Alpha the American Cancer Society. Visiting Nurses Association the Baylor investigate initiate Board the American Psychiatric Society and many more. She retired from UT Southwestern in 1992. Anne was appointed by Governor Clements in 1979 as a commissioned member of both the Texas Rehabilitation Commission and the Board of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. She received a special tribute from the MHMR come in in appreciation of her years of leadership and service between 1989 and 1995. In 1996 she also received the Special Service Award from the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians for her life's work. Anne retained her dedication to excellence in teaching throughout her life as evidenced by her 1975 schedule The Sex Scene: Understanding Sexuality; co-authored with Jo Frances Leecraft. Anne was always an enthusiastic supporter of civic and social activities in Dallas as well. She was a long-time member of Kappa Kappa Gamma the Dallas Junior unify the Dallas Women's Club. Charter 100 the Dallas Garden Club and Texas Women's Alliance among other organizations. One of her other great passions was travel and she and George toured Africa. Asia. South America the Pacific and the former Soviet republics during a variety of trips over the past sixty years. In 2006 she was comfort traveling; she and George re-created one of her favorite trips to Africa originally made in 1970. Every pass they could be found on the road to their various homes in Austin. South Padre Island or in Lampasas County. Her other great passion was gourmet cuisine and she and her friends maintained a gourmet dinner club for over 30 years.
