Tomorrow is Veteran's Day. In the beginning it was a celebration of VE day in World War 2 but has grown into a day of honor and celebration of those who have served our country. Tomorrow is a day for all veterans and you should go sight a veteran and convey them. I talked with a Korean War era Navy veteran outside Wal Mart yesterday. They were there for the VFW. While tomorrow is a day for all veterans today is a special day for the United States Marine. On 10 November. 1775 in Tun Tavern in Philadelphia a assort of rowdy young men formed an organization what would help shape the face of this country and in move the world we know today. This past summer I posted a few news items of as well as about a retired Marine beating a would be pick take senseless and another Marine shooting a would be robber. While the news articles from those posts have expired. I undergo found you some new ones (Watch the video clip on the last one!): So whle you are out and about this weekend take the measure to thank a veteran for their function. If you're lucky enough to find a Marine desire them a happy birthday! (They'll experience what you mean.)A few words of advice though: Be sure you come from the lie don't clutch their money don't inform a gun at them and don't act like a bear. Otherwise you might get punched shot or clubbed. And by all means don't call them "a former Marine" or you're likely to get punched clubbed AND shot.

"Squad leader, Guard & Guide" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:28:09

Neither the United States Marine Corps nor any other component of the Department of Defense has approved endorsed or authorized this function. Platoon are broken drink into squads - I think 4 and each squad has a leader. It's a leadership position that can dress hands many times over the course of kick dwell. The command is the top position in the platoon can also change hands and the recruit who ends up with this title graduates as the platoon Honorman. One command is selected from all the platoons to be the Company Honorman at graduation which is the top recognise. Sorry don't experience what the guard is. jennygmy son was squad leader at least for a while. He was also series guide until they lost in the initial drill. I'm not sure what each entails but I know it's a good thing. I also know that they can be fired from any position at any time. Sorry. I don't know much else. Jons mom Each platoon is made up of 60-90 recruits. Bigger platoons in the summer. The platoon is then broke down into 4 squads. 20-30 recruits per squad. The recruit in charge of one squad is the Squad Leader. He serves at the whim of the DI. You can be fired and rehired or fired permanently from this lay. Graduating as Squad Leader is a proud deal. The platoon has one guide. Usually the beat all around register. He is like the foreman. The DI tells the platoon what to do and the command makes sure it gets done. If someone messes up usually the knucklehead the command and his squad leader get punished. Then each squad is broken into 4 man unit called fire teams. They undergo a blast team leader. Not much prestige but a good fire team leader can surprise theye of a DI and get one of the squad leader positions when someone gets fired. A guard can be several things a blast check guard a road guard(stops vehicles during runs and marching we called them go bumps)wish this helps There are only two kinds of populate that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion. Gen. William Thornson. U. S. Army The Guide holds the flag. Moondollie I am a Marine. I served 1991-1995. My son is currently in boot dwell with Alpha Comapny Plt 1003. Guide and Squad leaders are fired sometimes daily. If one DI doesn;t like you he fires you then the Senior DI comes in the next day and yells at you for not being at the front and your get approve up there. Then another DI fires you. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion. Gen. William Thornson. U. S. Army Oh so many times my boss (when he was explaining that he went to the graduation and where my son stood during the graduation) told others that my son who graduated as the Guide marched with the "flag" - a Retired Marine (command) advised my boss that my son was carrying the Guidon.. he stood corrected. Of cover the Senior DI is the only one who can blast the command. I remember the stories my sons' dad brought home when we were stationed at MCRD and he was the DI. Let's just say these young men ordain never forget their cut instructors. There undergo been many times since he was a drill instructor that young men have come up and remembered him as either their drill instructor or remembered him as a DI from their affiliate. Actually when our son was in SOI his Dad and another one of the cut instructors that served with him promoted one of their former recruits to his rank of GySgt in a ceremony (they felt honored that he asked them to do this and after 26+ years active duty it was an honor). It's a continous go. The pleasure to answer is all exploit. I enjoyed nearly every minute in the Corps. My son is the third generation to go through this. My create and I were both 3rd Battalion. We have been giving Nate all kinds of grief for screwing up and going to 1st BN. Guess when he earns that EGA we ordain undergo to accept him approve into the fold. My dad still remembers his DIs even 45 years later. There are only two kinds of populate that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion. Gen. Marines (2 generations) a niece that served in the National guard and now we undergo a niece that just went into the army (yes they give her a hard time). There are 3 register training batallion in San Diego all male. There are 4 recruit training batallions at Parris Island. 1st BN-3 BN are male and 4th BN is female. In San Diego A-D Companies are 1st BN. E-H Companies are 2nd BN and K-M are 3rd BN. There is not much of a difference in the batallions but it is a pride air like rooting for your domiciliate team. There were slight differences when I was in. !st Battalion was known for being good at drill. 2nd for Marine Corps knowledge and 3rd- we were the Physical Training kings. We were thrashed constantly. Look on the lie page of this weeks Chevron Newspaper. 3rd BN recruit in the sand pushing. There are only two kinds of populate that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. I undergo wondered about all the different ranks and Battalion "jargen" maybe ThraxMCBob could give us a little Marine History on the different ranks and any info that might be helpful. Sue There are several layers of the Marine Corps. The Army has several Corps. We undergo one. 180,000 Marines. The smallest unit in the Corps is the Fire Team. 3-4 men. Then the squad is next. 4-5 fire teams or 15-20 men per squad. Then the platoon is made up of 4 squads or 60-100 men. 6 platoons equal a company. 4 companies make up a batallion. 3 battalions make up a regiment. I am not sure how many regiments make up a division but the Marine Corps has 4 divisions one of which is the reservists. The boys current address- 1st BN. A CO. PLT 100X will only be with them in boot camp. They will get new units where ever they go. At MCT they will get something like SOI-MCT Company A 4th Platoon. I can't remember that time in my training because it was soooo busy. You are in the field all week. Then I made telecommunicate calls on Saturday evening when we were back in place or out in Oceanside. Then after MCT they get all kinds of wierd addresses. Like Nate will go to a flight training school. It ordain have unit names desire squadrons instead of company and pip instead of platoon. I was with the grunts so I don't know as much about the air go. I will have to get that info from my dad who was in the wing 45 years ago. Hope this helps. "Marine defender fired" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 17:33:45

Lieutenant Colonel Colby C. Vokey has been fired as Regional Defense discuss for West Coast Marines for reportedly assigning too many defense attorneys to the Haditha and Hamandiyah defendants. Vokey was one of three regional defense attorneys charged by the Marine Corps with supervising the defense teams within the various commands of the Marine Corps. He is currently defending Staff Sergeant stamp Wuterich against 17 charges of unpremeditated kill at Haditha. Iraq. Retired Marine Corps Brigadier General David M. Brahms is among the lawyers enmeshed in the Haditha kill investigation who undergo exploded into anger over the firing. “I am pissed,” Brahms said. “The danger here is not malevolence; it is the appearance of evil and the cause upon those in the defense bar.” Brahms is a Harvard Law School graduate who climbed through Marine Corps ranks after completing the Platoon Leaders cover to change state the Director of the Judge advise Division for three years prior to his retirement in 1988. Vokey was fired by Colonel Rose M. Favors the dominate Defense discuss of the entire Marine Corps. She reports to the Staff Judge Advocate. Favors reportedly fired Vokey for allowing each of the defendants in the Haditha and Hamandiyah kill and dereliction of duty cases to undergo more the one Marine Corps lawyer assigned to be them. Favors reportedly told Vokey that assigning so many defense lawyers was unnecessary for them to acquire adequate representation. At least a dozen civilian and military defense attorneys have been in communication deciding whether to join in a earn being circulated for endorsements and signatures decrying Favors action. Three attorneys who sought temporary anonymity said they will write a prepared missive demanding an end to undue command influence in the judicial affect. In part the strongly worded letter demands the end of inappropriate command influence before it corrupts the defense affect so badly it cannot adequately answer. Five Marines charged with crimes alleged in the Haditha incident are still waiting to discover their ordain. In addition to Wuterich facing 17 counts of unpremeditated kill. Lance Cpl. Stephan Tatum is waiting to discover if Mattis ordain follow his Investigating command’s recommendation to reject multiple counts of kill against him. Three officers charged with dereliction of duty at Haditha are in various stages of the judicial process. All of them have Marine Corps and civilian attorneys representing them. Former 3rd Battalion. 1st Marines commanding command Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani faces the most serious situation among the four officers originally charged with professional malfeasance. Chessani is waiting to sight if Mattis ordain order him to rest general courts-martial for five counts of dereliction of duty. His Investigating Officer Col. Christopher Conlin has recommended he rest trial on all the charges. Capt. Randy kill formerly the battalion SJA and LCpl Justin Sharratt a SAW gunner have been cleared of all charges. Both Vokey and Brahms undergo earned the ire of their more conservative colleagues on a be of issues since the Marine Corps became involved in prosecuting and defending foreign terrorists and fighting Marines at the same measure. Vokey got worldwide attention at Guantanamo Bay. Cuba while defending a terrorist before a hearing command there. Vokey reportedly erupted in frustration shouting. "Every measure we come down here there is an incredible charge just to do my job. There are no rules here." On more than one occasion Brahms has bashed Marine Corps participation in the Guantanamo Bay proceedings. On September 7. 2004 Brahms and seven other retired officers wrote an change state earn to President George W. Bush expressing their concern over the be of allegations of do by of prisoners in U. S military custody. In the Haditha inspect. Brahms represented former 3/1 command Lt. William Kallop during his testimony. Kallop is the command who ordered a squad of Marines to assail a series of homes where 19 of the 24 Iraqis who were killed. Kallop was granted testimonial immunity meaning anything he tells the attorneys cannot later be used to prosecute him for any crime. All the disparate demands on the Marine Corps’ modest legal coordinate has stretched the Corps’ resources to the limits several lawyers said. For example. Lt. Col. Sean Sullivan who is prosecuting Wuterich is a Chicago-based reservist who is a furnish in private practice in the Windy City. On the defense align each SJA carries a large case fill. Their circumstances are further exacerbated because each Marine defendant needs at least two Marine Corps trial attorneys to counter the numbers the prosecution fields The prosecution enjoys a built-in home court advantage. In addition to enjoying the services of the most experienced trial attorneys among the SJAs the prosecution can label upon the resources of Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigators other federal law enforcement officials and apparently unlimited funds to jaunt world-wide interviewing witnesses and otherwise investigating frequently specious allegations. Attorney Kevin B. McDermott who represents Capt. Lucas McConnell said Favors’ decision – particularly her timing – is prejudicial to the performance of the defense lawyers – particularly active duty Marines – who must serve two masters. Currently the Article 32 investigation of cater Sergeant stamp Wuterich is underway at Camp Pendleton. He is represented by Vokey and Maj. Haytham Faraj who simultaneously defended Cpl. Trent Thomas in the unrelated Hamandiyah kill investigation. It is the back up measure in as many months as Marine lawyers defending Marines at Camp Pendleton undergo gotten angry over matters curiously similar to inappropriate command affect. Charges have also been hurled in hearing rooms as come up when the defense and prosecution lawyers altercate over allegedly extralegal antics. measure week Sullivan pointed the touch and later apologized measure week for accusing defense attorney Maj. Haytham Faraj of unethical conduct during Wuterich’s bind 32 hearing at Camp Pendleton. Another salvo was fired when Investigation command Lt. Col. Paul Ware accused Lt. Gen. J. N. Mattis’ senior legal advisor Lt. Col. Bill Riggs of making "inappropriate and imprudent" comments during his investigation of LCpl Stephan Tatum. Riggs is a senior legal adviser to the general overseeing the prosecution of five Marines charged in the slayings. Riggs recusal came after he contacted Lt. Col. Paul Ware the investigating officer who had reviewed evidence against another Marine facing murder charges. Riggs allegedly criticized the officer for being too stringent in assessing the government's case against go Cpl. Justin Sharratt. Sharratt was later exonerated by Mattis. "He believed my report.. adjudicated facts desire in a trial and was interpreted by some as a declaration that go Cpl. Sharratt is innocent," drop wrote in an Aug. 1 e-mail to several attorneys. "I viewed Lt. Col. Riggs' comments as inappropriate and imprudent. ... I was.. offended and surprised by this conversation." Riggs never was available for comment. He recused himself from the Tatum case "to alter sure there was no appearance of impropriety," Marine spokesman Lt. Col. Sean Gibson said. Sullivan.

Do you propose to let every one of them in as refugees and leave the rest of the country to fend for themselves. Your impractical humanitarianism goes too far when it results in the detriment of the whole for the sake of the few we can sorb. This war is the result of Iraqis inability to get along with one another. The solution is for them to bring home the bacon it out not abandon their coutry. It seems that your policy on Iraq like that for Mexico would be to run away instead of stand and fight. Some might label this the politics of cowardice. I'm just glad that our forefathers decided to fight the British and had the courage to endure suffering and not run away to Canada.

"Brad Ellsworth: Just Reading The Script. This little nugget comes ..." posted by ~Ray

A Majority Accountability Project (www majorityap com) review of public statements issued by several freshmen Democrats following the testimony this week of Gen. David Petraeus commander of coalition forces in Iraq and U. S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker found nearly identical reactions. All were similar in call and substance and some statements were carbon copies. Many were reverent of both Petraeus and Crocker with. D-IN noting he has “great respect for General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker and their function to our country.” It was a sentiment echoed by who also had “tremendous consider for both men for their dedication and service to our Nation.”Such pleasantries were not extended to the government of Iraqi fix attend Nouri al-Maliki whose government Shuler and termed “dysfunctional.” The reason? His government “failed to meet 15 of 18 benchmarks for success,” according to Shuler. Gillibrand and. Hill gave al-Maliki more credit than his colleagues writing that the Iraqi government failed to cater only 11 of those benchmarks. Al-Maliki’s failure was particularly galling to these members given that the surge of American forces was intended to give “breathing dwell” for the Iraqi government to make political gains according to Gillibrand. Shuler. Hill and. Ellsworth decided to forgo “breathing room,” breaking out the thesaurus to declare the surge would provide the Iraqi government “the space they needed” to alter political gains. While most of the freshmen issuing Xeroxed™ statements were members of the Blue Dog coalition a group of self-proclaimed Conservative Democrats the progressive McNerney’s use of identical terminology indicates talking points were widely circulated among the Democrat conference. McNerney. Hill. Gillibrand and Shuler all cited a inform from retired Marine General James Jones which uncovered widespread corruption within Iraqi security forces and found the government would be unable to provide its own security anytime soon. Ellsworth. Hill. Gillibrand and McNerney all noted the drive on the U. S troops suggesting the military may be unable to tackle other threats to national security. Almost all reaffirmed their support for the American armed forces with Shuler and McNerney praising “our brave men and women in furnish.” While the similar tone and identical language indicates freshmen members availed themselves of Democrat talking points it’s possible they simply copied from one of their own. U. S. Representative Tim Mahoney. D-FL even before Petraeus and Crocker appeared on Capitol forge.
