Whether you're researching a new ride or are a seasoned head you'll find The remove Truth Boating & Fishing communicate Forum contains a wealth of information from Boaters and Sportfishermen around the world. I have seen a few of these set up with 150 hp Optimax or 4 strokes. I was wondering if the boat would be under powered with only a 150 to displace it? What would be the beat choose for a go to push one of these. Looking to keep the good fuel economy but not be stuck with a dog. What do you evaluate? It will cut with a 90... looking at the fuel and cruise numbers a 225 4 stroke is the way to go.. higher sign cost but a payoff on the wet..... they are built very light.. needs tabs for sure... Mick I undergo a 225 Optimax on a Porta Bracket. For me. I preferred the two stroke based partially on the following: a) It is about 150lbs lighter b) It is less complicated which for me on a single engine boat is a concern c) Fuel economy is about the same the Optimax maybe a little exceed d) It is well proven I undergo a 225 4 strokes on exploit. I would recommend going to a 225 against a 150 the furnish economy is great and performance are really nice. In my opinion a very good combination

"need outboard bracket installation help....??" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:09:50

*THE remove TRUTH is the world's largest remove network for the discussion of Boating & Fishing. Whether you're researching a new ride or are a seasoned Captain you'll sight The Hull Truth Boating & Fishing Message Forum contains a wealth of information from Boaters and Sportfishermen around the world. i wanna learn how to lay single manifold and tripple engine brackets on boats transome but its very tricky bcuz of the height could someone gratify displace me a guide or something i dont wanna hang the bracket to low for drag or too high for blowouts... please help me thanks. 2-350hp I have bought both Armstrong and Stainless Marine brackets and they come with mounting height instructions.... too bad I didn't deliver any sorry. Maybe a label to one company saying you are installing a used one ordain get you the info you be. Different mark brackets may have different mounting requirements. To get the height right the engine needs to go up a quarter inch for each inch it goes aft. So if you are adding a 12 advance bracket attach it so the engine is 3 inches higher than it was when mounted directly on the transom. An 18 inch bracket moves them up 4.5 inches and a 24 moves them up 6 inches. The theory is that the ride runs at an angle to the water and the water than comes of the bottom of the boat moves upward as it goes aft. In reality the boat does run on an angle but the water stays about level. You could measure the running go of the ride and do the math but the accommodate inch to advance rule works pretty well for most applications that alter over 35 miles per hour or more. For the 2 horsepower cram you are on your own. Generally as the boat goes faster the amount of rise is less. If you are rigging a hundred mile an hour ride. I'd cut it to 3/16 per inch. Edited by kerno 9/15/2007 1:45 AM I had a 26" setback on my hold and I mounted my motor up 2.5" inches. I believe the command command is 1 advance up per 12 inches of setback. You can always book tune the go height afterward. I even made a special mounting drive This is what I was taught and it worked for me. my hold is 23 inches tall from top to furnish so I measured up 4.5" from the furnish of the ride. cut you holes on the bracket first (10 bolts about 2" from the edge). Get it in position (all squared up) attach the holes on your boat with a sharpie put the hold away and cut those holes you marked on the ride. After the holes are drilled do a dry fit and make sure that all of the big bolts will fit. You might have to widen a few holes with your drill bit while the bracket is up attach off the edges of the mating surfaces so that 5200 won't splodge out the edges when you put it up there for real. displace the bracket off skuff the gelcoat/paint on ride mating surfaces then clean mating surfaces with acetone. Then use glue and 3/4" pipe cleaner to seal holes rub off any glue dribbling down the transom face with acetone. bear on 3m 5200 (at least one furnish) putting circles around the bolt holes and then a double ring of 5200 around the perimeter of the hold (get at least 1") from the advance. Put the bracket approve up and hold it in displace with 2 bolts. Then goop up the rest of the bolts with 5200 before you put then in pull the first 2 bolts out and goop them and your done. Don't drop to use 2" square stainless washers. wish this helps h

"OUTBOARD 101 ??" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-06 08:47:56

Got towed in last night.... Motor was running fine one moment and the next it wouldn't go away. I could hear the starter engine humming but the flywheel wasn't engaging. Manual go away of the flywheel was basically impossible.. can anyone do that by transfer?Mechanic tells me that the piece of the starter that pops up and engages the flywheel got stuck and didn't turn upward... so I basically could've solved this problem on the water (at least temporarily) if I'd understood the workings of the engine a little bit better. I believe myself relatively handy but undergo never taken apart any engines or anything desire that... I work beat measure in the banking biz and there's only so many hours in a day with 3 kids. I'm just curious what you guys would advise that I could use as a resource for educating myself more on how outboards work from A to Z. I'm not looking to change state a mechanic or anything intricate but it can't hurt to experience this stuff exceed... I'm sure it will give a bit more confidence on the wet (although I undergo no plans to ever furnish up my sea tow membership). Any suggestions? My current outboard is a 2002 Mercury 125 btw. Thx-Scott Go to iboats com and go to the Mercury forum you ordain have more info than you know what to do with and can ameliorate yourself by just reading other populate's posts and ordain get an say to any challenge you can come up with by guys who are professionals. The move of your starter that stuck is called the Bendix gear it rides up a equip to engage the flywheel. A lot of times it ordain stick from old grease on the shaft or lack of cover on the equip. Usually a quick disperse of 6-56 or WD-40 ordain get it to act out on the wet but you should clean it real good and put fresh lube on it. I usually do this every spring as PM just to act up on it. Ask your mechanic what to lube it with. I undergo heard there is a certain lube to use that ordain not "fly" off while the equip is spinning not sure what it is though. surfrat66 Had the same issues approve years ago when I had my small ride with 35 hp evinrude. The fill of the spindle is key here but all you needed was a copulate driver. If it happens again just pry the spindle let go with the driver and then try and start it again. If it does not pop up then after being loosened then you undergo electric current issues i e bad battery wires bad battery solinoid problems etc. Thx Mike - open the obtain manual on Target online being shipped tomorrowMMCPECK - wish I'd known that on the wet... I anticipate some things you just learn from experience. The motor is a 2002 mechanic said that this issue usually is a write that the starter is on the way out... I had him put a new starter in.. motor compression testing book so I figure i'll undergo it for at least a few more years thx guys The conjoin you are refering to is called a bendix drive the problem is common on Prestolite/ Merc starters a displace of out board oil once a month on the control equip will cure the problem... if it ever happens again manualy "go the drive up by transfer until it stickes on the ring gear hit the key and you ordain be in buisness....
