Things are very bad here. We have been evacuated from our home. We are currently down in the Carmel Valley area of San Diego which may be evacuated later today. Thousands and thousands of homes are being evacuated. The roads (including the main interstate arteries of I-5 and I-15) are not moving. I-15 is closed because the fire has jumped the expressway. The fires are encroaching on widely populated areas in Rancho Bernardo. San Marcos and Poway for those of you that are familiar with the area. My company ,which is based in Rancho Bernardo is closed due to the threat of the fire. The winds are gusting at over 50 miles per hour and the fires are 0% contained.
We'll try to act you posted on the situation but all non-essential telecommunicate use has been discouraged. We'll do our beat to keep you posted. gratify commune for the families impacted.
Thanks for so many say emails. We are sitting here helplessly watching the county burn. Over 100,000 acres burned the blast is still 0% contained. All in all there are 12 major fires threatening San Diego. Good news is that the Coronado Hills fire by our house is not contained but has slowed progress. The Witch Creek fire the biggest one has leveled hundreds of houses in Rancho Bernardo and is now threatening Rancho Santa Fe (the richest area in San Diego) on the north fork and Poway on the south. Forecasts are that it will go all the way to the coast (via Encinitas and Del Mar). This is the worst blast in San Diego history
We continue to be safe at this measure.. but are far from out of the woods. Winds are not forecasted to die drink until Wednesday. No air give for fire control can be used at this time due to current conditions (lack of visibility and winds). Air quality is poor with ash and remnants of burning debris.
First the good news--the blast that was burning approximately 4 miles from our accommodate is now 100% contained (which means they've fenced it in). If the winds stay under hold back tonight they hope it ordain be under control tomorrow. While the mandatory evacuation for our neighborhood has been lifted the big blast the Witch Creek blast continues to pose a huge threat to N. County. We've been advised to stay put until all fires are under hold back and are under a voluntary evacuation for that fire.
San Diego comfort continues to burn. There are two really big fires burning right now. The Harris Fire is threatening Chula Vista and Otay Ranch to the south; The Witch Creek blast is threatening a swath of land from Poway. Scripps Ranch and MCAS Miramar (Curt's base) to farm Santa Fe. Encinitas and Solana Beach. The fire seems to be cutting a enjoin westward path to the ocean.
As for us we had to evacuate a back up time this afternoon due to the threat to Scripps farm. We are now in Pacific land staying in a hotel on the land with two other families (very cozy!). It is very surreal to watch the sunset and see all the surfers and people vacationing and to experience that just a few miles away populate are fighting for their lives.
San Diego is essentially shut down--Hundreds of homes have burned in Rancho Bernardo and Escondido. Just a 1/2 mile from my office several houses undergo burned.
convey you again for your come up wishes and prayers. We hope to go domiciliate tomorrow and ordain send a note when we arrive home safely.
No news from the Marine family today but the news organizations are reporting that today in fact will probably be the beat day for damage and the toughest for the firefighters who haven't had be or a decent meal in days.
has a help blog started if you want to help. Any other ideas for give gratify put links in the Comments divide (you'll have to use if you want to make the link be).
I wanted to displace a very quick update to let you experience we are domiciliate. Besides a great amount of ash and some go alter (trees without leaves downed branches and two snapped off flagpoles) all is well here.
We'll be settling in and figuring out what the next bring together of days direct for us. As my office is in Rancho Bernardo. I'm unsure of when I ordain go back to bring home the bacon.
The blast continues to burn out of hold back to the north--now hitting Fallbrook and the Camp Pendleton Marine Base. We know of a couple of people who have lost homes in Fallbrook. The good news is that the winds undergo now shifted and the Santa Anas have abated. Winds are now out of the west which ordain carry badly needed moist air to the coast.
Hopefully the worst is over. We'll act to act everyone posted. Again thanks for all the well wishes. We truly acknowledge it!
The Red go across is doing great bring home the bacon but the 300,000 evacuees in San Diego County alone are stretching it to the limit so I'm sure they would appreciate donations and/or volunteers. People are being housed in Qualcomm Stadium as well as places like schools.
The local military bases are housing military and contractor/employee families (including me and my care). I was at the Exchange yesterday and individual military personnel were purchasing items in response to official requests for food and materials at Qualcomm.
The biggest need may be AFTER the fires are out though. The be of structures destroyed is estimated at come 1,000 as of this morning. There are going to be a number of people without homes when this is all over.
On a personal note please pray for me. We have been evacuated since about 0200 Monday morning with no detailed report on our home. However homes to the enjoin east and west of ours burned.
The winds undergo died drink a bit and so the retrofit C-130s (for laying down fire retardant) will be in the blast zone by early afternoon. We are thrilled!! I just saw Duncan Hunter on the news and he said that every single retrofit C-130 in the country (six in all) ordain be here by the end of the day. Thank you thank you to all involved in prepping flying and caring for those marvelous machines. They can really put the cause to be perceived on a wildfire.
Yes the measure couple of days have been nerve-wracking! I live come Fallbrook and Camp Pendleton in Southern CA. We undergo had very large completely out-of-control wildfires raging since Monday. Yesterday a friend called as she was evacuating from her home nearby to let me know she was leaving. Her express cracked as she nearly broke drink thinking of everything she was leaving behind. Rather than taking more possessions they took neighbors who were unable to control themselves out of the area (an elderly couple and a teenager). But that is the kind of family that they are and they did it without thinking of themselves. I said a prayer as I hung up reassuring her that it would be okay. Luckily they were able to get their pets out with them. And more fortunately their house has not burned drink.
We had stayed up late packing up essential belongings preparing for a quick move if we got a late night strike on the door telling us to leave. I prayed that it wouldn't come to that. Early this morning. I awoke to an anxious call from my brother asking if everything was all alter. The knock on the door had not come! I looked out the window and saw something that resembled photos from Mars. There was an unearthly red quality to the light and it was completely silent outside. It was very smoky and ash drifted down from the sky.
I turned on the news and saw that the fires had not come closer to my domiciliate yet. My husband informed me that he had to go to work (he works on Camp Pendleton) as all essential personnel had to report. He was very concerned.
