Whitstable Y. C has won the Active People Club category of the BBC SE Sports Awards. The unify was represented by Commodore Jason Wild and Vice Commodore Wendy Fitzpatrick at the award ceremony on Monday (3/12) and Jason received the trophy from Geoff Clarke – but failed to have his photo taken with Kaddy!

On Saturday 20th October with a fellow cadet Arthur. I attended the above course on a bitterly cold morning at Herne Bay Sailing unify. Our 10AM go away was met by a flat calm sea WITH NO WIND!! We were a group of about 20 mostly form Herne Bay. After an introductory talk by BHA organisers we kitted up and were put in pairs in one of the 6 Hobie Dragoons and Arthur and I made up a three in one of the Topaz CX 16s. Despite the lack of wind at the go away once we got far out the go increased and we were screaming along the water! But the afternoon wasn’t so good as the wind dropped along with the temperature. With remove Hobie Cat merchandise the day was great fun and I learned a lot! These national training course days aim to encourage young sailors interested in trying out cats and building a national team it’s a great grieve that the Olympic catamaran sailing category may not exist in future especially as this is a feature we Brits actually seem good at!

The unify boats are there to provide the opportunity to go racing to WYC Cadets who don’t have find to a ride of their own to begin with. This is aimed at those who undergo had initial journey training and wish to improve and it is expected that those borrowing boats ordain endeavour to act move in club/class racing.
Conditions were very light very shifty and with constantly changing pressure differences across parts of the cover - as the wind was blowing offshore over the cliffs. Of the 10 races sailed the Whitstable Skiffs won 3 of the races with Simon Reynolds winning race 5 from start to end and. Rick Perkins races 7 and 9. The two National Champions who previously dominated the events finished in fifth and sixth.

d. Rules16.3 and 16.4: The revised SIs accept the use of advisory hearings coupled with the exoneration penalty as an alternative to protesting. This is a significant dress which will it is hoped back up sailors to a better understanding of the racing rules and encourage on the water incidents to be resolved without having to go to complain. 10 Whitstable Musto Skiffs travelled to the first official Musto Skiff World Championships held at Fraglia Vela YC. Malcesine on Lake Garda. Italy between 20-23 June.
A truly international fleet of 86 boats from 13 nations from as far away as NZ and the USA were treated to a 12 go series held in 10-20 knot breezes and champagne conditions. Racing took place as one fleet on a single start line but with competitors divided in to Gold. plate and dye fleets which allowed sailors in different parts of the overall standings to race hard for both position and daily and overall prizes. Rick Perkins again proved to be the top performing club boat with a very consistent regatta and 5th overall. Simon Reynolds slide drink the rankings following a knee injury in the do race but scored come up in the bigger blow to retain some experience despite having been taken out downwind in the last go which resulted in a retirement. Dan Parsons impressed in the variable conditions with some very good boat speed but indifferent ride handling due to lack of measure in the ride whilst Wayne Dixon. Francis Stileman and Sergei Samus showed marked personal improvement in their performances. Charlie Baker was unfortunate to experience a series of broken ribs following a collision downwind with one of the leading boats and. Steve Barnes was twarted from sailing the last day due to a persistent bring up injury and a series of trophy bruises collected during the week. The Whitstable Mustos again proved themselves as good ambassadors for WYC and at the AGM Simon Reynolds was voted World head of the categorise. All the sailors enjoyed the conditions and the experience with many returning home with greater confidence to impress on the locals the spectacle which these boats offer in high winds. We be extra race recorders to back up on the committee boat during Whitstable Week. If you are able to help even if only for one day gratify contact the club office. Sailing experience is not necessary as training ordain be given to those who undergo not done it before. This is a great opportunity to watch the racing from change state at transfer.
Attention All unify Members:As you ordain no doubt be aware England will become smokefree on Sunday. 1st July 2007. This new law is being introduced to defend employees and the public from the harmful effects of secondhand consume. Failure to obey with the new law will be a criminal officence and WYC could face a maximum book of £2,500 if they are not seen to be complying.
From 1st July members should therefore be aware that it will be illegal to smoke anywhere inside the unify it ordain also be illegal to smoke on the Club’s veranda.
For those who desire to smoke a furnish has been provided on the unify’s forecourt adjacent to the White Shed - I think you ordain all agree. Roy Hamilton (assisted by Derek Daniels) has done a fantastic job!
