"I Was a Marine For a Short Time --Part 2" posted by ~Ray

desire I was saying. I was going to be drafted and in all likelihood going to Vietnam. I figured that if I was going. I might as well go as an officer so I started looking around at officer candidate programs in the Armed forces. I settled on the Marine Corps which offered me a second lieutenancy upon graduation of college and six months more of basic. I would have to go to two six week courses at Quantico. Va. outside of Washington. DC. The first between sophomore and junior year and the second between junior and senior. I signed up and spent six of the hardest weeks of my life in 1971. The first three. I just could do anything Corps-style and had enough drill instructor time to last a lifetime. Those guys were prepare. Fortunately. I had gone through pledging a fraternity and with the treatment I got there. I was able to handle the stuff they'd do and in-your-face. Other guys in my platoon had not pledged and found this difficult. I transferred from Northern Illinois University to the University of Georgia for junior year. I was known as the "guy with no hair" because of my USMC haircut. Remember this was comfort the measure of the hippies. I decided to finish college at Northern but had to take some extra courses at Georgia the summer between junior and senior years so contacted my person in OCS. Officer Candidate educate and thought I had it worked out so that I would be able to do my six weeks after graduation and then the six months of basic. However. I must not undergo because several months later I received my Honorable accomplish. Evidently with the war actually winding down believe it or not they didn't need that many more second louies. With such a short service. I really don't believe myself a veteran although I can comfort join the American Legion. So that Was My Short measure in the Corps. --RoadDog

"3/3 KILO CO 3rd Platoon" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:07:41

Just starting a topic for the supporters of the guys in 3rd platoon. My son is Matt a squad leader. He said they have a shower trailer this measure. Clyde Hello All........ Well.... This is our 1st deployment to Iraq........ He was just promoted to Lance Corporal.... I have not heard from him for 2 weeks... last heard he was in Iraq settling in."No news is good news" is what we are going to have to be by...... We are sending him his 1st package.... I have the list from this place and from my Son's request... I have his address so. I ordain displace letters, this ordain back up with the helplessness I conclude about all this...... We have the phone recorder addressed to him in case we desire his call..... Well.... I feel supported by this website knowing that you are all there... going through the same up and down feelings while our Daughters and Sons serve in Iraq. I tell populate when they ask me about my Son...."He wanted to serve his country so others don't have to were his exact words".... So how could I fight against that... May God be with our children and may they all come home safe and sound... Semper Fi. Marine Moms.....1st Deployment Iraq Serving their country so others don't have to Hi Clyde. It's Tricia. How ya doing? It's nice to see you posting. Although Sean and Matt are in different platoons they're together again this deployment. I was glad to hear that. Although the living conditions aren't that great at least they do have better phone communication this time around... and a consume trailer yippee!!!JarHeadMom2. accept!! We're glad you found us. This is a wonderful site. So much information and so many nice people to converse with who know and understand what we are going through. CONGRATULATIONS on your son's promotion!!!TriciaPMM of Sean. Kilo,2nd Plt Hey everybody,Here we go again! I undergo gotten 2 phone calls and a few short emails. It's so hard not knowing exactly where they are. My son didn't say much about the camp other than it needed a lot of work and that it was more humid than last measure. He never complains and for that I am very grateful. Glad to experience that their are others in 3rd PLT last deployment it was kinda quiet and I sometimes felt desire the loan wolf. I am daily praying for all of our boys and would love to comprehend from some other 3rd PLT families. We ordain get through this!!! Hey Tricia!! It is nice to see you here again too!! I hope Sean is doing come up too. I do not know very much - only where they were SUPPOSED to be - but I don't know for sure that panned out. I also don't experience much about the living conditions but I evaluate they are exceed this time. Matt took a laptop and emailed once already his wife sent an electric washing machine (must be kinda small. Ha!) he bought a cook over there so they must have reliable elec for a dress. JarHeadMom2 congratulations on your Marine's promotion!! Don't mind the other Marines all look after one another especially like Tricia's Sean and my Matt and BlueEggSitter's marine who have been thru it once!BlueEggSitter we ordain get thru it and be just fine. The boys say it is quiet so far of course every day is 113 degrees so noone feels like causing trouble. Ha! Keep your bring up up and I know they will call more often this measure! Hey Everyone, come up I missed a call today but so wonderful to hear his voice even if only on voice-mail! Said he was doing book and that they were keeping them very work doing lots of different things. I remember last deployment I didn't want to leave the house for fear of missing a call. But I've come to find that it is better to try and live as normally as possible - that way my letters and telecommunicate calls can be more upbeat. It isn't always easy but I've got to try!!! Hope everyone is having a blessed day - keep smilin - that is what they would want us to do!! Robin glad you got a call today with an upbeat tone!! I think you are right in that you must just keep on with your regular lifew and go about your business. Also. I don't think they do the math on what time it is here or in HI when they label they mostly label when they get a come about. Maybe all the guys will label by the end of the week. I wonder what all they are doing - sounds more interesting than just the same old thing? Thanks for keeping us informed! Hi all.. Bryan's on his first deployment. He just phoned. Said the Motomail gets to him withing a day so at least communication from home can be regular. The measure two times he's called they're really brief conversations. during a "end". (I keep forgetting to ask him if he's received his official promotion. he was notified of it before leaving Hawaii. just needed the paper.) He did have in mind that his assort has been busy. I kind of got spoiled when he first arrived because he was calling quite often. now I wait patiently week by week. I asked him to create verbally but it didn't sound like it was easily accomplished :o( I have tons of faith in him as he's always wanted to be a Marine he is well trained etc. This is going to be a really desire. long. long time. Glad to sight others here. LauriePFC Bryan's mom Hi Laurie - and welcome aboard! You have open a wonderful assort of folks here at MarineParents com who are very caring and supportive. I sent you an email with some information so please be on the look out for it. Sometimes emails sent through our forum will be placed in a junk/e-mail folder. Again welcome - we are so glad you are here. VPM of CPL Ryan. 2/9. Deployment #3We pray for courage then danger comes so that courage might be. We ask for wisdom but receive trouble so that wisdom might come. We commune for like but receive torment so that like will reply. Hi All,Well he called back the next day - early morning LOL - who cares - he can change state us up anytime. They are 8 hrs ahead of us. Anyway he got to communicate to both of us (Mom and Dad) and it was soooooooo WONDERFUL!!!!! Living conditions are exceed than last time with A/C in their sleeping quarters when the generators are working. Very HOT but tolerable. When you're 20 things don't bother you as much. They undergo plenty of gatoraide so no rush to send that. Socks were a big request - as they get so funky after being in them for so long - they just fling them! Apparently it gets pretty smelly around there - I can only imagine!!! All the guys in the company are doing come up so we can let out a breathe of relief for a few more days anyway. Don't be disappointed to not get "letters" - they really don't undergo a lot of measure to write. But act your letters coming to them - send from home is very important. They also don't undergo find to a PX/Store on a regular basis so small toiletries are appreciated. I went to the local laundry mat to get small boxes of laundry detergent to send. If they have washers they don't always work so they will just soak their laundry in buckets. Glad that they have showers this measure - before it was rinsing off with bottled water. I remember when he came home from the last deployment that showers had been greatly missed!! But you do what you undergo to do I anticipate! So I have a big grimace on my face today and a little gladness in my heart. I'm so proud of all of our guys and just want this war to be over!!!! It's measure for them to come domiciliate. Have a great Labor Day weekend!! Thanks for posting Laurie - what promotion did Bryan recieve?? When Matt got one it took effect the first of the month. Thanks also Robin for your newsy affix - very informative! They do seem to be very busy. I am glad you all got calls to let us experience how the guys are doing..
