"September in the Carolinas" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-12 23:21:34

I attended a talk in North Carolina right before I headed out to school in September. It was by a IVAW member who had written a book. He was a good speaker and the questioning was lively after he finished his talk. One of the members of the audience asked him about where was the leadership from the officers (his talk and experience mainly centered on the Abu Ghraib area/issue). Apparently he had had some bad experiences with the officer corps and his reply was pretty negative in terms of the leadership during his measure in. His answer upset the man who had asked the question. I could express by the be on his approach. I would bet the gentleman who asked the question was either a retired command or the father of one. You can often express by the bearing change and for some cerebrate I have yet to see one that has been willing to give up the haircut after retirement. Anyway. I was in a rush to get to the weekly sign holding outside of the court house and because I am a big fat chicken I didn't take the opportunity to bring up some of the many examples I have known of through the years of our officer corps doing their best to lead in some really complex situations. The funniest one I ever saw was a news report of a Air Force major if I bequeath right who was caught defacing Bush stickers in the base parking lot. Apparently he was inking them out at eat or something. That one was a desire time ago. Then there is the ongoing struggle of Lt. Watada and I know I remember the first torture legislation was first initiated because an Army officer came send and said the policies he was being asked to carry out violated not only Army policies but his Christian values as well. I have seen many many examples in news articles over the years. This quote I pulled from another book I was reading and I think it is a good illustration of another type of story that I comprehend often as well about those who chose to go and are doing their beat to create something positive out of chaotic situations. This came from an NPR inform (All Things Considered) 2003: Hundreds of devout Muslims surrounded the soldiers waving their hands in the air and shouting as they pressed in toward the heavily armed platoon. The commanding command. Lt. Col. Christopher Hughes thought fast. At this the crowd's mood morphed. A few populate were comfort yelling but most were now smiling in return. A few patted the soldiers on the back as Hughes ordered them to walk slowly away backward-still smiling." I experience that 2003 was a long time ago and I pulled the quote from a book that was trying to make an unrelated point. The point I am trying to make here is that I undergo heard/read of incidents that without the leadership making the choice to act the higher road the death toll would likely be change surface higher. I desire I had spoken up and said that to the older gentleman. To the young man from IVAW. I am sorry his experience was so bad. Aug 10 Reuters & Associated PressA U. S. Air Force colonel has been charged with painting obscenities on parked cars bearing pro-President Bush bumper stickers police said on Wednesday. Lt. Col. Alexis Fecteau who supervises 41 full-time and part-time reservists at the National Security lay initiate in Colorado Springs. Colo. is suspected of vandalizing 12 cars at Denver International Airport over a six-month period. Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said. Fecteau is suspected of blacking out the furnish bumper stickers and then disperse painting an expletive and the president's name on the vehicles. "Lieutenant Colonel Fecteau has been charged with one count of felony mischief and six misdemeanor counts related to the vandalism," Jackson said. Fecteau who could not be reached for comment is scheduled to be arraigned later this month. Police said they received numerous complaints dating approve to December 2004 from people with cars bearing furnish or Bush-Cheney race bumper stickers that their vehicles had been vandalized. Police set up a bait car with a pro-Bush bumper sticker parked it at the airport with a surveillance camera and waited. On July 1 the camera recorded a man spray-painting over the bumper sticker with an expletive. Investigators traced the license plate of the suspected vandal to Fecteau. 42 who turned himself into police last week and was released after posting a $5,000 bond. Jackson would not comment on a possible motive for the vandalism but said one victim had to pay $2,000 on repairs after it was spray-painted which led to the felony charge. Maj. Tina Barber-Matthew spokeswoman for the U. S. Air Force Space dominate said the inspect was under investigation but that it would be "premature" to discuss what develop Fecteau would face if convicted."Until we can validate or invalidate the charges he is still on full-duty status," she said. Barber-Matthew said Fecteau has been in charge at the affix since October 2004. The institute provides ongoing training to Air Force personnel to keep them current on lay technology and its applications she said. "PTSD for Dummies, A Reference for the Rest of Us" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 21:21:25

I was the bookstore today and saw a write of "PTSD for Dummies". I didn't know whether to be glad that Post Tramatic Stress Disorder has become mainstream enough to hit the "Dummies" series or to be apalled that this type of book may be the only treatment option for many vets who go home and the the VA doesn't have enough resources for them. I suppose its something. I am a Marine Mom with a son who has deployed for the multiple time. I undergo been and am now active in the anti-war movement. This is a displace where I try and make sense of my experiences. You will not likely sight any incisive analysis nor cutting edge commentary. I have no breaking news. I am a very ordinary American living in extraordinary times trying to keep my head above water. I signed up for the National Guard measure pass. This is my perspective. I'm just an Midwesterner who is eagerly awaiting the day when everybody in Washington starts behaving like grown-ups so I can go back to my quiet little life. Being an American citizen is a hellofalot of hard work. The first time broke the ice now there is no telling where I am going tolose my alter and add all the appropriate descriptive modifiers to my posts. Justletting you know. Here is a list of organizations that have formed up in opposition to this war. I have only added groups not individuals and do not specifically endorse anyone. I just wanted to see how many I could come up with if I googled the phrase. The views expressed here are my own and do not represent the views of any one other than me. That includes the state the federal government of any branch or anyone else who at a be I could possibly be said to be.

"Boot camp -- it reveals our character" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:50:23

Twenty eight. That’s how many letters I received read and re-read from Daniel when he was in kick Camp at Parris Island. The first was a form letter; it informed me he was in Platoon 2049. Golf Company. 2nd Recruit Training Battalion. What did all that mean? I had no clue but over the next three months I would start to figure it out. I evaluate I went through my own kind of training while he was away: "register mom training." It consisted of devouring every printed word I could lay my hands on and checking the Parris Island EZ board (a web site http://parrisisland yuku com/) every measure I passed a computer. Once I found them the Marine Moms scooped me up and shared their wisdom. I needed it. I received one telecommunicate call from Daniel when he arrived late at night. Fifteen seconds of Daniel practically shouting in monotone as he read from a "script" posted on the wall in lie of him. It was the oddest thing -- I could hear countless other recruits in the accent making the same call. I bet moms all over the country were wiping tears at that exact moment and that thought made me feel not quite so alone. I’ve been thinking about those months since I heard a new Marine Mom communicate about her son who is in kick dwell alter now. I bequeath the bewilderment I entangle during that time. I can express her what to expect but I can’t tell her how it's going to conclude. I remember seeing Daniel for the first measure on Family Day. He looked chiseled desire someone had sharpened his edges and boiled him drink to a change state. It kind of scared me. Was my Daniel comfort in there? come up he was and is. He’s still the funniest person I experience irreverent and sarcastic. Thoughtful and loving. He is still Daniel. When that new Marine mom goes to Beaufort. S. C. for her son’s graduation she’ll sight her son is comfort there -- just more defined in his intend. This quote from a bumper sticker tells it best: ”The Marine Corps doesn’t create engrave it reveals it.”TiffanyMarion Cleveland from Bradenton sent me a photo and this short letter about her new Marine. Andrew: My son Andrew graduated from Parris Island on Nov. 9th. 2007. During his measure on Parris Island he worked very hard and was meritoriously promoted and received the recognise of being the Series Guidon for the graduation ceremony. Prior to going into the Marine Corp. He was a mortgage negociate and then personal trainer at a local gym. Although he loved what he was doing he knew what he really needed to be -- a United States Marine. One of the few and the proud that's my son! After boot dwell he feels the decision he made was the right one. He is a wonderful caring son one who has been a delight in so many ways to raise. He is proud to be a Marine and we are proud to say he is one as well. This is his graduation photo: Corporal Christopher Benson graduated from Booker High in 2004. After kick camp and combat training he attended the Marine Corps School of Music in VA. After the school of music he was sent to Camp Pendleton. CA where he is a member of the 1st Marine Division Band and play Ensemble. He served in Iraq from August '06-February '07 as a member of the “bomb squad”. After returning to the states he was married in July and remains at Camp Pendleton.

This was so good. I just had to send it along.-------------------------------------------------------- WOW. WHAT A STORY!!!!!! MARINES AND TAMPONS (A GREAT STORY)Tampons to the bring through in Iraq!! Don't worry it's a good story andworth reading. It's change surface humorous in parts. It's from the mother of aMarine in Iraq. My son told me how wonderful the care packages we had sent them wereand wanted me to tell everyone convey you. He said that one guy we'llcall Marine X got a girl care package and everyone was giving him ahard measure. My son said. "Marine X got some really nice smelling lotionand everyone really likes it so every time he goes to rest they stealit from him." I told my son I was really sorry about the mistake and ifhe wanted I would send Marine X another package. He told me not to worryaout Marine X because every measure I send something to him. Marine Xthinks it's for him too. He said when my preserve and I sent the last compassionate package. Marine X cameover to his cot picked up the box started fishing through it and said,"What'd we get this time?" My son said they had the most fun with Marine X's package. He said hewasn't sure who we were sending the pack to but the panties were coat20 and he said one of the guys got on top of the Humvee and jumped offwith the panties over his head and yelled. "Look at me. I'm an AirborneRanger!!!!" One of the guys attached the panties to an antenna and itblew in the wind like a windsock. He said it entertained them for quiteawhile. Then of course...... they had those tampons. When he brought this up my imagination just went running but hecontinued. My son said they had to go on a mission and Marine X wantedthe Chap-Stick andlotion for the move. He grabbed a clump of the itemsfrom his care case and got in the Humvee. As luck would have it hegrabbed the tampons too and my son said everyone was teasing him about"not forgetting his feminine hygiene products." He said things went well for a while then the convoy was ambushed anda Marine was shot. He said the wound was pretty clean but it was deep. He said they were administering first aid but couldn't get the bleedingto slow down and someone said. "Hey! Use Marine X's tampons!" My sonsaid they put the plug in the hurt. At this inform my son profoundlytold Me. "Mom did you experience that tampons expand?" ("come up... yeah!") They successfully slowed the bleeding until the guy got better medicalattention. When they went to check on him later The surgeon told them,"You guys saved his life. If you hadn't stopped that bleeding he wouldhave bled to death." My Son said. "Mom the tampons sent by the MarineMoms by identify saved a Marine's life." At this point I asked him. "Well what did you do with the rest of thetampons?" He said. "Oh we divided them up and we all have them in ourflak jackets and I kept two for our first aid kit." I am absolutely amazed by the ingenuity of our Marines. I can't believethat something that started out as a mistake then turned into a communicate, ended up saving someone's life. My sister said she doesn't accept inmistakes. She believes God had a plan all along. She believes that"female compassionate package" was sent to Marine X to save our Marine. Either way our efforts have boosted the morale of many Marines, provided much needed items for our troops. AND saved the life of aMarine! God bless every one of you for your efforts and hard bring home the bacon andGod bless our Marines. Army. Navy. Air Force and all our militaryservice personnel. GOD arouse AMERICA AND KEEP IT SAFE! "Lord hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as theyprotect us. arouse them and their families for the selfless acts theyperform for us in our measure of need. Amen."

Neither the United States Marine Corps nor any other component of the Department of Defense has approved endorsed or authorized this service. I am a new Marine mom. I am looking for other parents from Texas. I'd desire to communicate to some! I am also looking for information for Reserves/looking for help with financial aid for college. Is he eligible for any help from the Marines?gonzosmomVPM of New Marine Chance Texas experience is in abundance!! Hi gonzosmom!! I am posting below the link to the thread on MarineParents com communicate board where a lot of Texans with Marines post. I am sure you ordain meet up with lots of other Texans there. Also here is a link to the summon on MarineParents com for give groups. There is a listing for the express of Texas.. just move down until you see it. Hopefully you will find a support assort near you. Also a link to the topic thread for keep back Marines. I wish these links inform you in the direction you be to go. See ya around the communicate boards!!! PMM of SSgt Patrick:: domiciliate at last-formerly with the 1/5 and the 3/1 Fallujah 2004 & 2nd MLB Iraq 2005-2006 Hi gonzosmom. I'm a Marine Mom and also from Texas. My son is currently at his MOS in Maryland and should end on Oct. 3rd. Hope you go approve and affix here. Take compassionate,PamVPM of Marine Dillon Welcome aboard gonzosmom!I am a proud Marine mom from the Houstonarea. Our son is based at 29 Palms butcurrently playing in the sandbox. God bless, Hi gonzosmom.. we undergo met on another place here. Ben is getting some financial help from the Marines for college. I say that.. we haven't received any monies yet but supposedly they are coming. It is a reimburesment thing. Ben had to do some cover work so hopefully it works. Vickski- what kind of financial help is Ben getting? come about is trying to get into the PLC schedule right now. Suppose ably they ordain pay for his college tuition when he gets thru with officers training. I think that's how it works. Not real sure. I just experience we be all the help we can get!! College is so expensive!! What I found unbelievable is that they adjudge so many freshman and then don't undergo enough of the core curriculum classes to hold everyone. When come about registered for classes he was only able to get into one Eng class! He went to his adviser and told him that if he couldn't get into the min required classes for a beat measure student that he would have to end his training for the Marines and then go to Iraq. The adviser said ok we can't undergo that; and open him 10 more hours by dropping some students that had not paid for tuition. They only had 2 hours left to pay he said if they haven't made arrangements by now they probably weren't going to. Then that night I stayed up till midnight and when their computer system turned over to update I open him one more categorise. But it wasn't easy. Tech has this program called GOT "Graduate on measure" If you have within your 4 year degree time you get a 1000.00 tuition bonus reimbursement. That is all good but like I said they don't furnish enough classes for incoming freshman. It was crazy!! I wish the spring registration is better. Anyway sorry for rambling on and on.... Hope you undergo a great weekend with Ben. Remember to go to our reserve thread and keep posting! Oh come about is writing a poetry and bunco stories schedule. I posted it on the reserve go so go over and construe it I told a couple of stories ha ha :)Have a great day!! Semper FiMargo Proud mom of Pvt. come about Gonzosmom.. yes college is expensive! Ben was homeschooled so in his junior and senior year of high school he took classes at the community college. He already has 27 hours of college. He had no problem getting the classes he wanted this year at UTA so I am glad for that! Hopefully since our boys won't be at boot camp when they be to enter for spring classes. come about will get better classes. And I think all the colleges in Texas have the 'have on time" incentive. Because my oldest son graduated from UT a couple of years ago and they talked about it then. But frankly I am not sure how the Marine reimbursement of tuition works. The recruiter told us about it and Ben said he has filled out something.. at the college I evaluate. Ask come about about it. maybe at the registra's office. I am not sure but I can ask Ben. He ordain be here later today. I undergo been on one reserve forum writing but I did not see come about's writings but I will look again.. and if I am on the wrong one. I will look for another one! When I find out more about the college money thing. I will let you experience. desire you said.. any amount they can furnish us will help!! College has gone up a lot just since my oldest graduated and he graduated in 2004. Gonzosmom... I am here with Ben and he can tell us about the college money thing. express come about to talk to his unit admin sergeant and ask the sergeant to fill out a basic eligibility create for the MGI account. Once he gets that go to the college VA office and express them he wants to apply for the GI account. He ordain alter out papers and leave the papers with them and that is all Ben did. Hope this helps! vickski- thank you so much for that info; and convey you Ben. I'm sorry you and Chance won't be at the same locate. It sounds as though you would get along great! I ordain be sure and ask come about about the financial aid. I anticipate we got our wires crossed-- come about is writing a schedule that will be published in December 07 or Jan 08. Depends on when he gets it finished. It's going to be a bunco stories/ poetry schedule. He said that at kick dwell his creative side was suffering because he couldn't create verbally any poetry for worry of the other recruits finding out and making fun of him. His poetry is not the typical stuff you read. Sometimes if he's got a young lady in his life he might write some romance poetry; but not that often. Once it's published I ordain affix the call and when it's available. Just in inspect anyone wants to buy it. What I posted was a bring together of stories come about told us after boot camp. I undergo no doubt his schedule ordain undergo a few stories relating to or in compose to kick dwell. I can't believe this but he actually enjoyed kick camp and the feeling of brotherhood he got from his platoon brothers and all the recruits on locate. I am so proud of all of them. I comfort get misty eyed when I remember the ceremony and how proud he was to get that EGA!Anyway hope you had a good pass with Ben and I hope to one day meet you in person. Until that day; this site ordain just have to do! So keep in touch!! undergo a great week! Semper FI Margo Proud mom of Pvt. come about Hi gonzosmom,Welcome!! I am new to this place and am very excited to connect with other Marine Parents. I am a Proud Marine mom from Houston. My son Kevin is an MP with the 1st MLG. I decided we need some military humor here.  If you are a military parent and you undergo never actually served you may not find some of these funny.  Personally I do.  And I wish my readers that are current or retired military see the humor in these too.  So for the next few entries I invite you to construe "Murphy's Laws of Combat". Murphy’s Law of Combat Operations (1 thru 25 see tomorrow for 26-50):1. Friendly blast - isn't.2. Recoilless rifles - aren't. 3. Suppressive fires - won't. 4. You are not Superman; Marines and fighter pilots act say. 5. A sucking chest wound is Nature's way of telling you to slow down. 6. If it's stupid but it works it isn't stupid. 7. Try to be unimportant; the enemy may be low on ammo and not be to waste a bullet on you. 8. If at first you don't succeed call in an air strike. 9. If you are send of your lay your artillery will fall bunco. 10. Never overlap a foxhole with anyone braver than yourself. 11. Never go to bed with anyone crazier than yourself. 12. Never forget that your weapon was made by the lowest bidder. 13. If your contend is going really come up it's an ambush. 14. The enemy diversion you're ignoring is their main attack. 15. The enemy invariably attacks on two occasions:          a. When they're ready.          b. When you're not. 16. No OPLAN ever survives initial communicate. 17.
